I'm a 4th year with enough units that I am close to have super senior standing. Yet why is it that by the time I get around to my second pass every GE class that is remotely interesting or with a professor that actually has some ability to teach is gone? Why is it that I find myself now looking for whatever is the easi...est; the least amount of trouble, because none of the classes are going to be worthwhile so I might as well go for the one that requires the least effort? Why are there so many bad professors here?Read More

Hello.
I am a student who believes in fiscal prudence...considering the budget
crisis, how did UCLA come up with the cash to "re-grass" Wilson Plaza?

I
undertand that the fee increase was invetible and that the regentshave
their backs up against the wall. But when students get physically harmed
in their school, in which they call home, by undertrained university
officers, I think the blame can be put on UCLA.
I am sorry Chancellor,
but for the two years you have been
here... i personally believe that you have not represented the students
real well. Please, don't let me leave UCLA with the impression that my
Chancellor did not have an impact on me.Read More

What I also noticed that the officers that had more "physical"
altercations ( tasing and pepperspray) with students were officers that
are no more than 3-6 years older than me, fresh out of highschool or
college. Because the officers that handled the situation professionally
were older and seems like they have more experie...nce. These young
officers clearly showed a display of "power-hungry" and lack of
professionalism, and you should consider looking over the type of
training they go through.

Dear Chancellor
You should be ashamed of your UCPD for I believed that they did handle the protest appropriately. Obviously, from previous post on your wall, someone can agree with me that the university police somehow abused their power. I personally saw one UCPD officer unnecessarily shove two female students from the... back trying to "clear" the space, when clearly these two students who probably were only bystanders who did not even know they were obstructing the officers.

Tasers are not to be used frivolously, as sadly were witnessed
Wednesday and Thursday at the Covel Courtyard. I understand the
precaution of the police force, but tasers are not to be used (or
threatened to be used) on passive resisters (according to the brief
explanation of the policy on the UCLA newsroom website). Also,o...ther
uses of force on the side of the police should not be distributed so
liberally. I feel very uncomfortable and disheartened at the actions of
a few of the security force, and would immensely appreciate your timely
response on the matter, specifically on the use of tasers. Thank you
very much for your time.
Kind regards,
Kaylee Griffith, first year student.
(P.S. Rubber pellet guns should not be pointed at any student, unless
exhibiting violence or agression. The fact that this concept was not
followed during the protests causes exceeding amounts of concern to me
and other students.)Read More

Dear Chancellor Block,
Could you please explain to me how this photo, as well as many of the other photos in the slideshow (and numerous videos),
http://d.yimg.com/a/p/ap/20091119/capt.4 a55726feba6419c9856782fccdcb6a3.aptopix_ california_university_fees_cadm101.jpg?x =400&y=276&q=85&sig=q7kM25T_lDcslmYNxeVH CA--
could be app...ropriately applied to the UCPD's policy of resulting to
taser use only when "violent, active aggression and active physical
resistance" is taking place. Though this picture may perhaps be out of
context, other photographic and film evidence gives a very convincing
impression that this policy was not displayed correctly over the course
of the past two days.

Dear Chancellor Block,
I know that the 32% fee increase is a very difficult decision for you, as I'm sure you have the best interests of the students in mind. However, we as students feel that we are paying more now and getting less. Classes are cut or overcrowded, Professors are laid off, many students have said they w...ill not be able to return to the University next year because of the fee hike. Even though I am graduating this spring, I would like to apply to Grad School, but I'm worried about the cost. I do receive financial aid and for that I am grateful, but there are many students on campus who do not qualify for various reasons and need an education too. I also am speaking as a single parent of a graduating high school senior who has her eye on UCLA after she finishes 2 years in a community college. By that time I can't even imagine how high the fees will have risen. Please take the time to answer all of our worries and concerns-We love UCLA as much as you do.

Hi Chancellor Block,
My friends and I are doing a scavenger hunt and one of the things on the list is to take a picture with you. Would it be alright if we dropped by your office sometime in the next week or so? This shouldn't take more than a few minutes of your time.
Thanks,
Regina Lee, Jenny Knall, Honeygirl Lacasandile, Suzanne Felipe

Hello Chancellor Block,
In September, the American College Health Association issued a reccomendation for colleges and universities to go 100% tobacco free. We have all heard of or seen the problems tobacco creates , but what is UCLA doing about this issue?
Sincerely,
Carlos N.

Chancellor Block,
You are listed as one of the instructors for Phy Sci C126 for the upcoming quarter. I know it would be an amazing experience to participate in one of your classes, but I'm worried that with a schedule as busy as yours, you won't be available for a substantial amount of classes. Do you plan on lecturing... for half of the quarter (as the class listing suggests), or will you merely be present as an infrequent guest lecturer?
Thank you!Read More

Chancellor Block,
I was wondering if it would be appropriate, and how I would go about, sending an email to the entire UCLA community. It's about a young man in desperate need of granulocyte donations (the donation process is like giving blood but a lengthier, so few people are willing to do it, and we need to get the ...word out or he'll probably die.) He's at Reagan Medical Center and the donations need to be done at a place on Gayley street. Please contact me (jori@ucla.edu) and I can fwd you the email I want to send out. Thank you. -joriRead More

Chancellor,
I am an active duty military graduate student in the MS online program for engineering. I am stationed in Florida. I sent in my bruincard application, plus a self-addressed stamped envelope so the card can be mailed back to me. But the bruincard staff wrote me that they "do not mail out BruinCards" and I wo...uld "need to stop by one of our (bruincard) offices upon your arrival to UCLA....(to) pick up the BruinCard." It's unreasonable to expect me to fly to UCLA to pick it up. If I can get a birth certificate, a passport or even driver license mailed to me, why not a bruin card? I required a bruincard to establish a student status for papers, publications, etc. Can you help?Read More
