Michael Sakamoto GREAT speech by the outgoing Chairman of the Cal State Univ.'s on how the CA educational system and our children's future as a civil society is being sold down the river and how we must stop this madness before it's too late!

Elise Youn

Elise Youn Did you know the Regents are coming to UCLA next week to raise your child's tuition by 32% this year alone? This is on top of closing the libraries on Saturdays, laying off dozens of teachers, and eliminating UCLA's writing tutorials! Inform yourself and make yourself heard here: http://people.ucsc.edu/~bmalone/Parents.html

We should all sign these petitions. Probably won't help, but we should all go on record. Also, all of us should pledge to the UCLA Parents Fund whatever we can afford to help maintain the Bruin quality of education for our students. Remember, "What's right for you and your family is right for UCLA." Now is the time!

The link above doesn't work, but if you paste in the URL, it takes you to the site. Very exciting, as my daughter is in Asian American Studies.

Finally, a pac-10 win. Whew. If we can only keep Kevin Prince off the medical ward... Maybe a bowl game is still a possibility? Kevin Craft deserves a lot of credit for his coming in cold and doing as well as he did, with little practice preparation.

Though popular depictions of college are usually conspicuously devoid of parents, a recent Orient survey shows that over a quarter of Bowdoin students polled communicate with their parents on a daily basis.

Re: Jacquelean Gilliam, Director UCLA Parent Programs aka Jacquie aka miracle worker! With her staff Jacquie has managed, in less than a year, what other state universities of equal size have yet to aspire to. If you are a bruin parent browsing this site JOIN NOW! I have only been a Bruin mom since April 1, 2009, and ...I already feel more connected to UCLA than the two universities our older children attended. This past summer, while attending the Parent Orientation, I found the Parent Program’s presentation and lunch the most informative part of the day long program. The representatives of the Parent’s Council and the Parent’s Program staff were well represented, and their message of welcome was heartwarming; the information they provided on how to become connected and involved was refreshing. Fast forward now to move in week; freshman boy form the Midwest arrives at UCLA. Bedding and bath supplies had been sent ahead. Upon arrival he was informed that mail service would not begin until Monday; 4 days after his arrival! I called Jacquie at the number I had from orientation and he had his bedding and bath supplies within the hour. Fast forwarding again to parents weekend; we arrived from Indiana at our hotel, which shall remain nameless, on Thursday afternoon. At check in we were dismayed to discover there had been an error made and our reservation was only for one night! We were informed, since it was parent’s weekend, all the area hotels were “sold out”. We left for breakfast in the morning planning to return to check out at noon, not knowing where we would go that evening. I felt we had a problem even Jacquie could NOT fix; lesson #1 NEVER tells Jacquie she can’t do something! This picture is Jacquie handing me the phone number of the hotel that was within walking distance from the north side of campus, who would provide a room for us, AND at a reasonable rate! The support of the staff, and the programs offered by the UCLA Parent’s and Families office has been an essential ingredient in the recipe for our continued belief that our son is in the best place. GO BRUINS!Read More
