Introduction to your Student's Union!
A big welcome to all of you! We've got loads of exciting events planned for you throughout this academic year, from Freshers' Fortnight to the May Ball, to make your University experience as fulfilled and active as possible. We'll keep you all posted from this site, so to keep updated, check this page regularly.
First, a little bit about your Students' Union. It's a democratic organisation, run entirely by students, for students, and is headed by five Sabbatical Officers who have been elected in by students - Mike, Barney, Mark, James and Matt, and a group of part time Executive Officers. If you want to have your say on how the Students' Union's run, please do! You can do this by joining our Forums, joining Union Council, or by going to one of our zone committees.
Our mission statement is "to defend and extend the rights of our students by proactively creating and maximising opportunities" - this is integral to everything we do. We do this through a variety of ways, including providing CV-worthy experience, training, support, and a fun time throughout the duration of your studies. We are also running three main campaigns this year to defend and extend your rights as students.
At your Students' Union, you will find that we have lots of stuff available for you. We have a variety of clubs and societies for you to join, and you can get advice at the Source - our independent advice and support service, and you can get involved in any of the media we provide - from a magazine to a radion station! There's also the brand new bar in the Derby campus called the Academy, Fizeek fitness suite, Blends cafe, various shops including the Dome, Keddies, Rotunda, and Artique, and of course there's all the Entertainment that we provide! We also have the Boiler House in Buxton where you can chill, play music, have a game of pool, and seek advice and support.
On our website, there's now a gallery where you can try and spot yourself and your mates at some of our events. Keep checking back as there'll be pictures added regularly.
Overall, there's something for everyone. So get involved, and love your Students' Union!
Enjoy!

The Forums are the place where you can have your say about your Students' Union, get updates on what's going on, and discuss any issues you're having or any current affairs. Then there is, of course, the added bonus of speaking to other students and potentially making friends!
The Forums have just had a nice little jig around, which should make it far easier to find what you're looking for. The Student's Union has take the prime location, with its seperate forums for SU announcements, Student Activities, Democracy and Entertainment, among others. The Zones are in the Democracy section, so if you want to have your say in how your Students' Union is being run, it's far easier to do so - just sign up and write your piece!
