UIS Volunteer & Civic Engagement Center Join us during National Hunger & Homelessness Week on Monday, Nov. 16 for a powerful two-part exploration of poverty featuring Joel Berg, executive director of the New York City Coalition Against Hunger and author of the book All You Can Eat. Stay for the Oxfam Hunger Banquet, and experience a taste of the incredible h...uman suffering still being caused by hunger in the United States and abroad.

UIS Volunteer & Civic Engagement Center Come by the Volunteer Center to pick up regisrtation forms for our popular Halloween event: Trick-or-Eat. On Halloween night, teams of students will go door-to-door collecting canned goods and other nonperishable food items for the Central Illinois Foodbank as a kickoff to this year's Holiday Star Project. Enjoy some f...ree pizza, soda, and music afterwards while we weigh the food and annouce the prizes. Don’t have a group to go with? Not to worry! We welcome all “free agents” who would like to meet some new people.
UIS Volunteer & Civic Engagement Center On Friday of Homecoming week, the Volunteer & Civic Engagement Center is sponsoring a service event for M.E.R.C.Y. Communities, a supportive housing and service organization for abused, homeless, and at-risk single mothers and their children. Students will be cleaning the grounds, painting walls and furniture, and movi...ng air conditioning units to prepare a housing center for new families.

UIS Volunteer & Civic Engagement Center Posted photos from the Midwest Mission Service-A-Thon group. The event was a great success. Twenty-four UIS students provided 72 hours (three full days!) of service to our community at Washington Park, the American Cancer Society, and the Midwest Mission Distribution Center.
