UMNS Faith groups struggle with abortion, health care reform. United Methodists, like many religious Americans, find themselves in the middle of the debate.

I think the news article takes a Laodicean stance - that is lukewarm - on the issue. In my district, very few UM members - clergy or laiety - view cosmetic abortion as anything less than premeditated murder.
I don't like the cliche, "What would Jesus do?" because it seems to leave our Lord in the past tense. Jesus is alive and well on planet earth. I prefer "What is Jesus doing now?"

"God certainly did not think of jerking a fetus from a body....or pointing a weapon at an advesary as answers."

Roseann, I'm still trying to figure out the relevance between murdering the unborn and defending oneself against violence.

Save the climate, maybe, yet scores of souls lost. Ergo, the Methodist ethos.

Guess who piced up the tab on this European blast? You guessed it: the UM faithful. And the various ACs have the gall to ask us small struggling churches why many of us have stopped paying our apportionments.

I have some questions for the UMNS. The first is why don't you have any information on Climategate? The next is why did you not address the hypocrisy of those attending the summit by flying over instead of teleconferencing? My last question is did our tithe money pay for this?

UMNS The adage tells us, “It is better to give than to receive.” Some children in Africa know that happy feeling this season. Young people orphaned by AIDS can now grow crops and share the fruits of their success with others.

UMNS United Methodist chaplain brings Christmas cheer to people he serves in Arkansas. The Rev. Scott Moore makes sure more than 200 children and young mothers get a reminder of Christ's love on Christmas Day. Love matters.

UMNS The Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, pastor of the largest United Methodist church in the U.S., has posted an open letter to Tiger Woods. What do you think of his advice for the athlete?

At Windsor Village, we believe God has called us into action to help establish (build) on earth the Kingdom He has already ordained in Heaven for our personal lives and for the life of our community. Take a look at our worship schedule and location, events, prayer, outreach, and counseling programs....

The letter was what one might expect from a secular source, but not from a minister of the gospel. Rev. Caldwell mentioned David and Nathan, but he did not mention the contrition and repentance of David. And he never once urged Mr. Woods to turn to Christ and accept Him as Lord and Savior. I would be very disappointed with my pastor if she ever wrote such a letter to anyone.

UMNS The roving eye of the Tiger (Woods, that is) is no role model for marriage. A United Methodist pastor has developed an online resource to help couples strengthen their marriage. The key to a lifetime of happiness, he says, can be found in Galatians, Thessalonians and Ecclesiastes

Wow. Tough crowd. I saw those opening lines simply saying that through these very public scandals lately, marriage itself has taken a beating. That including these lines in an article to combat the attacks these people's public shortcomings have had on the institution of marriage would call for such harsh response was rather jarring- I didn't read ... See Morethese lines as judging these people, but rather lamenting the public state of marriage where these were the latest examples. Could it have been started differently- sure, but by starting as it did, it grabbed my attention and quickly and succinctly stated the need that the study itself is there to address.

Any man with tiger's looks and money would be sorely tempted. Only through moral conviction could any of us resist. I can understand why he did it without condoning his actions.

Wonderful prayer and sentiments! However, until the people who voluntarily sign up to participate in the military (as in your family and mine) say no to war, the politicians and generals will find a way for them to use violence in the "national interest." As one bumper sticker I saw said, "PRAY FOR PEACE, ACT FOR PEACE."

I think the denomination wastes far too much money on social/'political causes which many UM members don't support. Actually, this very website in which we are now opining is as useless and worthless as a means of advancing the kingdom of God as mammary glands on a plow mule.
