Obet Ignacio

Obet Ignacio Today is Christmas Eve. Whether or not Christ was born exactly on this date is not important. But chronological accuracy has nothing to do with tonight's event. A grand genius had been born who preached truth and love; who suffered because of his mission; and on account of his sufferings the world has become better, if... not saved. Only it gives me nausea to see how some people abuse his name to commit numerous crimes. If he is in heaven, he will certainly protest! (24 December 1886) Dr. Jose P. Rizal »

Union Theological Seminary Holland Cotter of the NY Times reviews Union's Compassion exhibit (it is the second exhibition discussed in the review) saying "it’s like nothing else in the city, and this quiet show, far from the art world downtown, bodes well for its future." The show runs through January 14th, so if you're in the City, you still ha...ve time to visit! http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/01/arts/design/01lookahead2.html

In the city that really does never sleep, there are always novelties, and in early January ones that you might have overlooked at a busier time of the year.

Holiday tension got a little too intense for a Brooklyn store owner this week. Customer comments over his Christmas and Hanukkah displays have him running up the white flag of surrender. There's something missing on Prospect Avenue in Brooklyn. It's a certain holiday spirit that's lacking.

My favorite Messiah-sing at Union memory was my second year, I think. 1997 or so. There wasn't much time for soloists to practice and the soprano had something of a cold. So ... no "Rejoice". As we were singing our way through, woman most of us didn't know said, "I'd like to sing "Rejoice"" -- so Penna let her, reminding all of the rest of us that ... See Moreit's a hard thing to sing well w/ no rehearsal and stating that of course we'd all be happy to hear whatever came out. The woman opened her mouth, and it was breathtaking. Turned out she was a Manhattan School of Music voice student. Stunning.
