United Way of Southwestern Indiana Since launching 2-1-1 service in Gibson County on February 11th, the Center has experienced a 391% increase in the number of calls from the county. The agencies and Step Ahead Board are doing a wonderful job getting the word out regarding 2-1-1.

Sims, who works in Vectren's economic development department, and Prellwitz, an accountant at Harding, Shymanski and Co., worked for the United Way for nine-weeks this fall. United Way of Southwestern Indiana Early Childhood Development Coalition staffers Melissa Schmidt and Sara Murray, as Little Bo Peep and Mother Goose. Schmidt and Murray greeted children at Mesker Park Zoo's Boo at the Zoo, where they helped kids make spiderwebs and offered suggestions to parents on activities help build literacy skills for their children.

HUB International employees raised around $590 on Monday, Oct. 26, during a luncheon to benefit United Way of Southwestern Indiana.
More than 110 people attended. The menu included barbecue prepared by Barry Jones, deviled eggs from Cheryl Hildenbrand and baked beans from Ruby Deutsch. All HUB International employees ......chipped in money to purchase the sides and drinks. Other associates provided desserts.
United Way would like to thank HUB International for a wonderful meal and everything else they do for our organization!

More than 45 people participated in a Poverty Simulation on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at the Career and Technical Center on Lynch Road. The simulation was led by Emily Baxter, community impact manager for United Way of Southwestern Indiana. The simulation is a 30-day role play in the life of a poverty stricken family that...... is divided into four 15-minute "weeks."
Baxter said that she hopes participates get "a real life example of what people in poverty are faced with every day."
After the simulation concluded, one participated told Baxter: "I was consumed with chasing services, hoping that I would be able to get to them in a short amount of time."
