United Way of Southwestern Indiana Early Childhood Development Coalition staffers Melissa Schmidt and Sara Murray, as Little Bo Peep and Mother Goose. Schmidt and Murray greeted children at Mesker Park Zoo's Boo at the Zoo, where they helped kids make spiderwebs and offered suggestions to parents on activities help build literacy skills for their children.

More than 45 people participated in a Poverty Simulation on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at the Career and Technical Center on Lynch Road. The simulation was led by Emily Baxter, community impact manager for United Way of Southwestern Indiana. The simulation is a 30-day role play in the life of a poverty stricken family that... is divided into four 15-minute "weeks."
Baxter said that she hopes participates get "a real life example of what people in poverty are faced with every day."
After the simulation concluded, one participated told Baxter: "I was consumed with chasing services, hoping that I would be able to get to them in a short amount of time."Read More

United Way of Southwestern Indiana Keller Schroeder recognized their customers on Friday, Oct. 2 with a Customer Appreciation Celebration outside their office. The celebration included food and music. Keller Schroeder collected cans and donated food and meat to the Tri-State Food Bank. Last year, Keller Schroeder in honor of their 30th anniversary donated $30 for every customer who came to their Customer Appreciation Celebration to United Way.
