The Unitus Leadership Summit is an annual conference hosted by Unitus to bring together the leaders from our partner microfinance organizations to share best practices and experiences, gain valuable learnings, and build relationships to support th...eir work. The 2009 summit marked the third and largest to date and included 27 representatives from 16 of our microfinance organizations, spanning six countries and three continents.
The three-day conference included facilitated trainings from the world-renowned Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), a round table discussion on MIS (Management Information System), a panel and facilitated discussion on Social Performance Management which highlighted the work on numerous partners, and a panel discussion on over-indebtedness. In addition, there was an optional site visit to Mimo Finance, a microfinance organization based in Dehradun and Unitus partner since 2008, as well as executive coaching sessions with seasoned global executives.
Rounding out the event was an awards dinner, focused on recognizing achievements and growth amongst Unitus's partners. Seven partners were recognized, including Samhita—an Indian-based MFI serving the hard to reach segments of the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh—who won the "Unitus Acceleration Award", AMK—an MFI serving rural Cambodia—who won the "Unitus Effectiveness Award", and Samit Ghosh, Founder and CEO of Ujjivan, who took home the first annual "Inspiring Leader" award, chosen on-site by attendees.
The summit included thoughtful discussion, learnings and sharing of best practices, both within and outside the packed three-day agenda. Adet Kachi, CEO of Yehu Microfinance which is based in rural Kenya, shared, "The conference was great - very enlightening and informative. The areas that were discussed were very relevant and (all) of it was worthwhile."
