Unshackle Upstate Ever feel squeezed when it comes time to pay bills? New York State is feeling that same pressure as their money supply has dwindled down to $36 million and the bills they have to pay are still piling up. What are they going to pay first and which taxpayers are going to be the first to suffer? Will it be libraries, scho...ols, or you? Read more to find out how New York legislature is merely putting a Band-Aid on this huge budget issue: http://bit.ly/6iGmGX

Unshackle Upstate According to John Faso, it's repair time in New York! The state government is running out of money and soon won't be able to pay all its bills. Let's see John’s suggestions on how N.Y. can fix this problem.

I worked for the Federal Government in the 90's when it was shut down twice. Bill Clinton never blamed for stopping his government- Newt was the villian and gave up his post prior to Impeachment effort. Didn't go to work and still got paid. Don't expect New York to fall apart if government is put on furlow. Look for crime rates to rise to make us want more government. New York Post - Headline under Gerald Ford- NYC Drop Dead.(1976)

Unshackle Upstate Here is an interesting poll from Marist about your feelings on Albany and incumbents. There are good legislators out there and we need them to return. But for the others, voters have had enough. Time to put words into action.

As long as the general public (read: voter) believes that taxes & spending = good, and cuts = bad, and especially that anything related to business = bad, naming names like this won't do much. Remember "Don't tax you, don't tax me, tax the fellow behind the tree?" I may not like it, but the public still believes there is someone to tax that will "solve" the problem, even if the "fellow" moves and takes his jobs and income with him (or her) to another state.

You can bet that when the times comes we will tell you who is good and who is bad and who we think will represent the taxpayers. Until then, we need to keep getting more and more people to join the cause and push for change at the State Capital.

Blah blah blah blah blah. How about less talk and more action. Patterson says all the right things, then lets Shelly and Co. steamroll us. I'm tired of talking!

He said it all during his budget message, then caved in to Silver when crunch time came. Had he stood his ground we wouldn't need to be looking for mid year cuts now. I just hope it is not already too late.

Unshackle Upstate As we return to work, our elected officials are returning to Albany to try and resolve the budget deficit. They are looking at many items, but most of them are not the good cuts we demand. Hit the link below and send a message that clearly states they shouldn't "balance the budget on the backs of taxpayers". SEND YOUR NOTE NOW...the clock is ticking!

Unshackle Upstate New York's budget crisis isn't taking the weekend off but legislators are leaving Albany without a DRP in place. The Legislature's inability to put politics aside to work this out is another slap in the face that will be remembered in 2010!

I wish it would be remembered in 2010, but I'm afraid that the public doesn't see the budget as a problem -- the media doesn't tie spending cuts to budget balancing. All "cuts" (even "cuts" to proposed spending above the previous year's actual outlay) are seen as bad and only hurting children, the elderly, etc. The public, not spending time ... See Morethinking about the state budget, just accepts that line, and votes in the incumbents time after time. Why should legislators be responsible? They just get tagged with "he/she hates kids."

Unshackle Upstate Unshackle Upstate has issued a press release regarding Governor Paterson's draft Industrial Development Agency reform proposal. By adding more costs onto IDA incentives, the governor is jeopardizing the upstate economy for short term political gain.

Albany, NY -- Unshackle Upstate today expressed outrage over the governor's draft Industrial Development Agency (IDA) "reform" proposal, which would require developers to pay prevailing wages on many construction projects that receive lower cost financing through an IDA.

Jody - I did repost on my Facebook. I do think we (I.e. those interested in moving this type of legislation forward) would get a better response if we did not make it personal / name calling (I.e. 'Stupid is as Albany does'). I have had a few people note that to me when I point them to the UN FB Page.

I believe in the cause, support but would love to see a different tone. Thanks for your hard work.
