Unsilent Night
“Phil Kline’s boom box-chorale parade has become a bona fide holiday tradition. His luminous, shimmering wash of bell tones is one of the loveliest communal new-music experiences you’ll ever encounter & it's never the same twice.” Time Out NY
Information
Members:
Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night is a free outdoor participatory sound sculpture of many individual parts, recorded on cassettes, CDs and mp3s, and played through a roving swarm of boomboxes carried through city streets every December. People bring their own boomboxes and drift peacefully through a cloud of sound which is different from every listener's perspective. Since 1992, this 45-minute work has grown into a worldwide annual communal event that has become an essential part of many winter holiday celebrations. Anyone can produce this--individuals, arts organizations, museums, universities, towns & cities have presented it. Start your own! Contact us for details.

Unsilent Night An interesting article about Phil Kline.

Source: www.college.columbia.edu
Whoever came up with this old joke surely wasn’t listening to one of Columbia’s most cutting-edge composers, Phil Kline ’75. Kline may be “experimental” (who else can boast of writing a symphony for 21 iPods?) but his reputation hasn’t scared off less adventurous listeners. ...
