Workers fear that settling for a survivor job could hurt them when hiring picks up again. Career experts say there won't be any long-term implications, and there could even be hidden opportunities.

Boycott self serve registers. Don't pay to work for free, then there would be more jobs. So long as people line up to work for free, there is no reason to hire anyone, only to come up with more ways to cut employees.

I was non-existent in my profession for almost a year. I have taken some "survival" jobs. Recently, I have been contacted about work in my chosen field. It seems, sadly, that some employers now are asking for over 5 years of experience but offering less money than I got 10 years ago when I was new. It seems some employers are trying to leverage the recession to their own short term advantage. What a shame.

I would pay higher prices to keep people employed. I also feel we should stop imports and buy American made even if it costs more money. Importing cheap goods from China, India, etc. has destroyed this country.

I know how you feel Kathy, but dont lose hope, even if its all you got. You can and will succeed if you put your mind to it. Ive been out of work twice in the last year, but I REFUSE to give up or give in. If I go down, it will be fighting.

In light of the events that gripped our city (Orlando) yesterday, we are still pressing forward with our largest Pink Slip Party ever hosted by Jux.ta.pose and the Orlando Magic at the Amway Arena on Nov. 16th. Now, more than ever people are crying out for help and need jobs. I've partnered with several great compani...es that are hiring in the Central Florida/Tampa area. If you are out of work or know someone that is, I encourage you to repost this or pass this along to them. It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a nation to support our unemployed. yup - don't agree with that either - just a good way to convince people to agree to lower pay with the hitch of "job security" only benefits the employer. Reality is companies are always looking for the most qualified candidate willing to take the least amount of salary. I see it all the time on the recruiting side.

Pam Giordano After a year of trying to find employment, I am finally working part time as a substitute teacher. Due to the bad economy, substitute positions are highly competitive; I was lucky to get one. I'm glad to have the work but hope the economy will improve enough for me to find full time employment.

Laid off this year..again. If I hear anything back it is always that I'm "over qualified". And how do states think we can live on $225/week unemployment? I couldn't pay my mortgage, house is gone now...four months with no job in site.
