United States Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina Visit to Copacabosnia Open Fun Football School: On Monday, August 2nd, members of the U.S. Embassy Sarajevo visited an Open Fun Football school in Ilidza, which trained almost 200 boys and girls from the Ilidza, Butmir, Hrasnica, Doglodi and Istocna Ilidza regions in a fun setting near the Zeljeznica River. This camp... is called Copacabosnia because it takes place in a grassy beach-like area and close to the water! Open Fun brings together children from different communities and provides fun activities in an enjoyable environment. The ultimate goal is that the friendships created at the camps will continue long after the training has finished. Each Open Fun School combines football training using 12 different sports stations, with each station emphasizing a different sports skill. This year, the participants also enjoyed a specialized 13th station called “Things Talk”, designed to promote environmental awareness. Children learned the basics of recycling by creating art and toys from recycled bottles and paper. Project Director Anders Levinsen and Country Project Coordinator Esad Hadyljusufovic, along with Project Assistant Vildana Delalic, explained Open Fun’s unique concept and discussed its success in building bridges through the positive power of football. For more information on Open Fun, please check their website at www.ccpa.dk.

United States Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina Members of the US Embassy Sarajevo met with students attending youth media and youth politics seminars run by the German NGO Schueler Helfen Leben. Schueler Helfen Leben is funded by German students and encourages youth engagement by helping students throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina form active student councils and w...orks to break down ethnic divisions. The students, from high schools and universities throughout BiH, gathered in Ilidza to gain skills and develop projects to foster youth leadership in politics and media. Students offered their first-hand insight on education and raised issues such as recognition of university degrees under the Bologna process, ethnically divided schools and curricula, corruption, lack of equipment for practical training, and challenges they face when trying to bring about change in these areas.

United States Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina Fourteen energetic students returned to Bosnia and Herzegovina today after 10 months in the United States on the YES (Youth, Exchange and Study) high school exchange program. This fully funded USG program matches students with a high school and family in the United States, and is administered by American Councils. Th...e students were placed all over the United States: from Alaska, to California, Maryland, Minnesota and elsewhere. This is the first group to participate from BiH, and they were warmly welcomed at the airport by Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy Sarajevo, Jonathan Moore. The students shared their “life changing” experiences with Mr. Moore, and asked him when a McDonalds will open in Bosnia! The next group of YES students will depart for the United States this August.

When applicants come to the Embassy to renew their visas, they will be granted visas with a ten-year validity, provided they qualify.
