Featured Choreography Selections:

MY SHADOW IS CROOKED / SHADOWPLAY
Originally conceived of and performed as a solo, MY SHADOW IS CROOKED / SHADOWPLAY based on a desire to promote compelling performance from within. It incorporates ideas from Carl Jung regarding the shadow self (unconscious, undeveloped, repressed, denied aspects of self) and from The Pregnant Virgin - A Process of Psychological Transformation by Marion Woodman. There is also a nod to Robert Bly (The Little Book of The Shadow) in the image of the body bag sculpture... The long bag we drag behind us.

* Choreographer: Andrea Beckham
* Music: portions of “Angel Fragments” by Laurie Anderson
* Text: portions of “The Play” by Anne Sexton
* Technical Assistance with the Score: Taylor Kirk
* Scene Design: John Christensen
* Lighting Design: Alexandra Lagunas
* Costume Assistance: Polly Veltchev
* Performers: Lisa Kobdish, J Elissa Marshall, Shelby Smith, Krystal Wigfield

THREE TANGOS
A suite of dances choreographed to Tango music

* Choreographer: José Luis Bustamante
* Music: Damián Bolotín, A. G. Villoldo, E. S. Discepolo, Marambio Catán, Pablo Ortíz

THE WELL
THE WELL is the story of a woman who struggles to be a part of the community while fighting the urge to perform a social taboo. This community survives on well water that has to be drawn from and carried to town in buckets. It is the only source of water for these people. This piece explores what happens when an individual in such a community puts her own desires (to use the well for her own needs), before the needs of the community.

* Choreographer: Chell Parkins
* Music: Tom Benton

BORDER MEMORIES
The piece will explore the themes and emotions brought forth in the photographs of Susan Harbage Page, who currently teaches Studio Art and Women’s Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In her photos, Susan portrays the possessions left behind my individuals crossing the US-Mexico border along the Rio Grande. The choreography will depict how these photographed objects are encumbered with stories of struggle, courage and sacrifice. As the photographer describes, “These objects become relics or symbols not only of a changing culture, but also of homes that are left behind…”

* Choreographer: Alvin Rangel
* Photographs:Susan Harbage Page

Previews of new works by Yacov Sharir and Lyn C. Wiltshire will also be presented.
