Celebrate The National Day on Writing!
Writing is an essential part of our daily lives, from text messages and IMs to business proposals and memos. People of all ages and positions participate in some form of writing, and new technologies increase the variety of media we write in and the audiences we reach. To shine lig...ht on the importance and numerous varieties of writing, the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) is designating October 20, 2009 "The National Writing Day on Writing." This day will serve to celebrate the use of writing in our personal and professional lives, recognize those who write in all kinds of media, point out the importance of writing instruction and practice for every grade level, and encourage Americans to enjoy writing. The UWC wishes you a happy writing day!

During this event, you will have the opportunity to talk with Prof. John Ruszkiewicz, head of the one-semester writing center internship course (RHE 368C) offered by the Department of Rhetoric and Writing, meet members of the UWC staf...f, and hear from current undergraduate consultants about their experiences at the UWC. You will also learn how to apply for positions with us.

UT Austin's The Undergraduate Writing Center is pleased to host a workshop with writer James Hannaham, author of God Says No, the story of a deeply religious man coming to terms with his homosexuality. Born in Yonkers, Hannaham has also written for Salon, The Literary Review, Open City and Nerve, as well as The Villag...e Voice, Spin, Blender, Out, Us, New York and The Barnes & Noble Review.
During the workshop, Hannaham will read from God Says No as well as conduct several writing exercises with the audience.
