Maya Sonenburg received the Drue Heinz Literature Prize for her first collection of stories, Cartographies; her second collection is Voices From the Blue Hotel.
She is currently experimenting with writing fiction by examining the formal expectations of poetry, and writing, for example, a fictional villanelle.
For sev...eral years she was the director of the Creative Writing program in the English Department at the University of Washington, where she still teaches.
