Sorensen held a reception Wednesday afternoon for the seniors on the UW-Stout football team and their coaches to congratulate the players on their successful 8-2 season, the best in recent memory. The chancellor complimented the players for being excellent ambassadors for the football program and ...the university, saying they are scholars first and athletes second. The reception was held in the chancellor’s conference room in the Administration Building.

Clint Ewert, a junior at UW-Stout majoring in engineering technology, won the Battlebots Collegiate Championship this year with a robot he and his brother, Jake, made and operated last spring. The brothers, who are Abbotsford natives, decided they wanted to compete at ...the collegiate level and launched the UW-Stout Robotics Team early last spring. They competed in the BattleBots Collegiate Championship in California in April. The brothers come from a family of professional robot builders. Clinton Ewert and Jake Ewert began their foray into robotics in 2001 when their father built several robots for a worldwide BattleBot competition. The family team has competed in and won many competitions.

Provost Julie Furst-Bowe said the retirees had a combined 650 years of service to the state of Wisconsin. The reception was held in the Memorial Student Center.
