
Ventura County Fire Department More than 100 graduates of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program recently participated in an exercise at the VCFD Regional Training Center. The CERT members from throughout the county trained in fire suppression, search, rescue and other skills so they could help serve their communities following a disaster.

Ventura County Fire Department Practice makes perfect - Firefighters practice vertical ventilation techniques on the roof a large commercial structure scheduled for demolition in Simi Valley. Vertical ventilation during a fire allows heat, smoke and gases to escape a building, making the atmosphere inside safer for potential victims and the firefighters.

Type 3 Strike Team - Type 3 Engines are specially designed for wildland firefighting. When dispatched to a wildfire, a strike team consists of five engines and a staff vehicle.

Ventura County Fire Department Ventura County firefighters, assisted by firefighters from the city of Ventura, responded to a heavy-rescue traffic collision in the Santa Clara Valley. A vehicle had gone off the road into a ditch. The patient had to be extricated from the vehicle then lifted out of the ditch for transport by ambulance. Two adults wer...e extricated and both were transported to the hospital.

Ventura County Fire Department The Ventura County Fire Department responds to all in need, even four-legged patients. On a recent Sunday afternoon, USAR 54 and Ventura City ME2 responded to a horse and rider that fell 15-20 feet over the side at Highway 118 and Somis Rd. The rider was transported to the hospital and, after it was sedated, the horse ...was successfully brought back up to the roadway where it received veterinary care.

Ventura County Fire Department FINAL UPDATE - The Rancho Fire is now 100% contained. Acreage remains at 56. Firefighters will be working on mop-up overnight and full control of the fire expected Monday evening.

Ventura County Fire Department UPDATE - The Rancho Fire is now being called 56 acres with 65 percent containment. Firefighters and helicopters continue to work to contain the fire.

Ventura County Fire Department UPDATE - The Rancho fire is now at 47 acres with 65 percent containment. Firefighters have begun to gain the upper hand on the fire.

Ventura County Fire Department UPDATE - The Rancho Fire is now at 20 - 25 acres with 60 percent containment. More than 300 firefighters have been assigned to the fire and there is an aggressive air-attack underway.

Ventura County Fire Department BRUSH FIRE - The Rancho Fire is currently burning near Thousand Oaks in the vicinity of Highway 101 and Rancho Rd. The fire is currently at 10 acres with no containment. More than 300 firefighters have been assigned to the blaze and additional fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters are responding. Ventura County Fire Department On Saturday, September 26, firefighters from the Ventura County Fire Department and seven other agencies gathered at the Fallen Firefighters Memorial of Ventura County at the Ventura County Government Center to honor 40 firefighters who lost their lives in service to the county. The ceremony is held every autumn to mak...e sure the ultimate sacrifice made by these firefighters is never forgotten.
