We called the dr. at Iowa state today at my clinic. The family had flu like symptoms and are trying to determine if the family had the flu and the cat was tested for FELV/FIV and was neg. The cat is 13. They think this is a very isolated incident. They determined this from a lung wash and was confirmed in their lab as well as an outside lab. We have already been getting calls from clients on this as it was on the news this morning. The cat is doing well on supportive therapy.

I have a friend who goes there and yes they may be shutting the program down. The governor is taking funding away from the veterinary school and of course, thats the first program that goes. Haven't heard yet if they have though yet.

Jessica Neadow

Jessica Neadow Hi... I am a new tech and have been working with my lisence sense end of august. I need tips on getting iv cathaters in???? I was really good at first and I can hit the vein and get blood back but when I thread I end up not in!!!! I wanna be good and this upsets me daily...

Shonda Hannah
Shonda Hannah
Once you have hit the vein and have a flash, have you tried advancing the stylet ever so slightly before complete insertion of the catheter itself?? This is a very SMALL movement, but a lot of times will produce a smooth catheter placement.

I agree with Shonda, also remember to take a deep breath before you do it and go slow! Everyone has bad vein days. You will not get all of them all the time. Don't be upset!
