I must say I was very concerned about a Democrat Congressman that just got interviewed on FoxNews saying that the Dem's plan will not lower costs for health insurance, and the CBO said the public option would only pick up 2% of the population, meaning most people will be as a screwed as ever with continuing rising health insurance costs without any

I truly hope that what is being said is true and accurate. I also hope that politicians are not allowed to corrupt this. Politicians are one of the most corruptible of all creatures.

The states do not need permission from the federal government to nullify laws the feds lack the authority to enforce in the first place. All they need are informed citizens and state officials willing to stand up for the supreme law of the land: the U.S. Constitution.

Taxpayers in Ohio will pay $24.1 billion for total Iraq war spending since 2003. For the same amount of money, the following could have been provided:8,540,785 People with Health Care for One Year. And remember, this is borrowed money that is financing this war.

Those people who don't see how this will have a harmful effect on our country have either not done the research (listening to CNN is not research) or are looking for the handouts that this bill will provide. There used to be a time in this country when people had to work for what they wanted. Now we just want the government to hold our hand and make it all better. If we are going to reform healthcare, lets do it with a better option than this bill.

Ken, I would be happy to have the insurance companies go bankrupt... though I doubt they would, they'd just have to cut back the huge bonuses for their execs! And if it forced us into single payer, all the better! The insurance companies are already rationing health care by denying services. All we'd have to do to keep it going is to rescind that tax cut for the wealthy that Bush got his friends!

I'm still not understanding why people feel the government has the right, or the responsibility, to be daddy and hubbie to the American people. If parents provided health insurance for their children in the first place...and young adults got health insurance when they entered the work force, it seems to me like "pre-existing condition" wouldn't exist since they would have been covered all their lives.
It all starts with the family...or lack thereof. And the government can't fix that.
And when are we going to demand that Americans be responsible for their poor lifestyle choices like eating poorly, over-eating, smoking, not exercising, etc?

Veronica, first of all, death happens. Sometimes it is from something unexpected like a car accident and sometimes it is from something horrific, but expected, like brain cancer.
It is interesting to me that people are willing to bankrupt this country and demand money from their neighbors in order to prevent the inevitable. Thanks to vaccines (and the free health clinics that provide them), every American can be protected from diseases that once wiped out entire communities. Thanks to free health clinics, people can obtain birth control and avoid having children they cannot afford to care for (which includes purchasing medical insurance).
Thanks to charities, non-profits, donations, fundraisers, etc. my step-brother was able to get the life-saving medical care for his extremely rare brain cancer. Charities save lives every day...even lives that people were so sure would be lost.
...
Sucking taxes out of the American people is not necessary for people to get medical care. Wise decisions would save far more people than socialized medical care.
I am so thankful that if I need a vital test or surgery, I don't have to wait in line 3 months like many people under socialized medicine in Canada. My grandmother, eligible for Medicare in the U.S. but also eligible for socialized medicine in Portugal, nearly lost a kidney due to the Portuguese health care system (which is socialiazed). She came to America and had the necessary procedure within days.

President Obama must view Mike Douglas's movie "The American President" and stand up and fight the fight that needs fighting and quit bending over backwards to the status quo and finally bring change to this country before we loose everything we have gained. Only the voters who believed in the promised change are the losers here. The Republicans are too indebted to the health care industry to stand up for anyone.

I object because the word "regulation" appears in this bill 181 times, "tax" is there 214 times, and "fees" is used 103 times. I hate these words and I won't feel too good about you either if you inflict them on me.
...
I object because you're not going to read this bill before you vote on it, or sit with the federal code to look up and read all the parts of existing law that the bill will change.
I object because the bill will require federal bureaucrats to write hundreds, or even thousands of pages of regulations to fill in the details, and because I'll have to pay for lawyers and accountants, either directly or indirectly, to interpret and comply with this mess.
I object because many of my healthcare choices will be dictated by a "Health Choices Commissioner" and an "Inspector General for the Health Choices Administration." I won't be able to elect or fire either of these people, and I do not want them in my life.
I object because this bill costs too much, and because you're hiding the true cost in a variety of fraudulent ways.
I object because this bill contains numerous Trojan Horses that will eventually kill free market healthcare in favor of complete government control.
I object because it is increasingly clear to me that my supposed representatives really represent their own party leadership first, special interest lobbyists second, and me not at all.
Please stop to consider that this bill will be imposed on me at the point of a policeman's gun. If I do not want to pay for it, or comply with it, armed men will eventually knock on my door to force me to submit. Do not do this too me!

Natassia, you are so naive!! All of your comments are based on the concern that you(through taxes) might have to pay for someone else.. Wakeup, that's what taxes are all about. In a civilized socialty, all contribute to the country and its needs. This is bigger than taxes.

and charities" but these aren't for most Americans, they are for the truely poor. Most Americans desire health coverage through employer based coverage, if you're not lucky enough to get this, other coverage is beyond the means of most(look into the cost for an average family and what it covers with private insurance). Health care is run by private insurance companies that profit from denying claims and limiting competition. A small few shouldn't profit so greatly from millions of citizens and their lives!!
Your last comment was the best.... Hmm, someone with Medicare coverage(a government based program-btw) would receive better medical attention in the US than in Portugal... Really?? No kidding?
And don't listen to the rhetoric about the Canadian healthcare system, it's a good system and people like you(that live in America) talk trash about something they really know nothing about. Receiv

I believe the video shows how far the President Obama has distanced himself from the promises he made as Candidate Obama. Read Tavis Smiley's book "Accountable" for a list of the Health Care Reform promises he made and has no intentions of delivering. He has been selling motherhood and apple pie with a generous does of appeasement candy. He is willing to watch 45000 people whose death he bemoans, to continue dying for another few years.
Here is a missive I have sent him and the inhabitants of the two ends of Pennsylvania Ave:
--------------------------
--------------------------
----
Without a Robust Public Option, it is not possible to lower the cost structure with any degree of confidence. No regulation can demand that the Insurance Companies reduce their current premiums from the levels that are bone-crushing for John Q Public. Treasury coffers will continue to deplete as Govt pays out subsidies at these high rates. The pattern of transferring money from taxpayer pockets to Corporate pockets will only grow stronger.
...

SO PLEASE STAND STRONG FOR A ROBUST PUBLIC OPTION. NO COMPROMISES. NO CLEVER TOOLS LIKE CO-OPS OR TRIGGERS DEVISED BY CORPORATE TOOLS FOR THEIR PATRONS. STANDING STRONG MEANS NOT VOTING FOR A SHAM BILL. PRINCIPLES ARE IMPORTANT; DEMS CAN SET AN EXAMPLE WHICH WILL BRING THEM A LONG TERM STANDING WITH VOTERS. BY THE WAY, ALLOWING SOMETHING LIKE A TRIGGER IS TO CONDEMN ANOTHER (45000 * 4 OR 5 = 180,000 OR 225,000) MORE PEOPLE TO DEATH. HOW CAN THIS BE? WHERE IS OUR MORAL COMPASS? DO NOT VOTE FOR A DEATH SENTENCE. SHAME THOSE WHO WANT TO. NO TIME FOR MAFIA STYLE SUPPORT FOR COMRADES. IT IS TIME TO TAKE A MLK/GANDHI STYLE STAND.
--------------------------
--------------------------

No results so far. Presidents advisers have put him in a Bush like bubble where let alone my missives he has no time for folks like Tavis Smiley or the Progressive Caucus. He has chosen to coddle Snowe to claim sham bipartisanship. Amazingly while castigating his base he took time to praise Snake in the Grass-Lee, whose big claim to fame was to delay the Bill by sticking his finger in the dike, to hold the HCR back beyond the August Recess.

Why don't you just call it what it is? It's a TAX BILL NOT HEALTH CARE REFORM! Here are some pages in the bill you might want to read before you go out lying to the public!
Taxes in the bill:
TAXES
...
Employer FINE Under Mandated Excise Tax (Page 310): A $100 per day excise tax imposed on employers for each employee for whom employer fails to “satisfy the health coverage participation requirements”. Excise tax will not apply if Secretary determines even after “exercising reasonable diligence” employer was unaware of employee’s lack of participation in health coverage.
Employer Excise Tax (Pages 313-317): If an employer chooses not to provide health insurance to employees, an excise tax on the total wages paid is imposed on the employer. The excise tax percentage ranges from 2% of total payroll of $500,000 to 8% of payroll of $750,000 or more. If an employer has less than $500,000 annual payroll, he pays no excise tax.
Employer Health Coverage Tax Credit (Pages 317-319): Small business owners receive a tax credit of 50% of health insurance paid for employees whose wages are $20,000 or less per year when the employer has 10 or fewer employees. The tax credit is prorated as the amount of wages increases, leaving no tax credit for the employer when such employee's wages total $80,000 or more per year.
For employers with more than 10 employees, the tax credit calculated by the proratio shall be reduced by an amount in the ratio of 10 to total number of employees.
These items are in addition to the following:
Comprehensive List of Taxes in House Democrat Health Bill provided by Americans for Tax Reform (ATR)
http://www.atr.org/userfil
es/102909pr-housetaxhikes.
pdf
Employer Mandate Excise Tax (Page 275): If an employer does not pay 72.5 percent of a single employee’s health premium (65 percent of a family employee), the employer must pay an excise tax equal to 8 percent of average wages. Small employers (measured by payroll size) have smaller payroll tax rates of 0 percent (<$500,000), 2 percent ($500,000-$585,000), 4 percent ($585,000-$670,000), and 6 percent ($670,000-$750,000).
Individual Mandate Surtax (Page 296): If an individual fails to obtain qualifying coverage, he must pay an income surtax equal to the lesser of 2.5 percent of modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) or the average premium. MAGI adds back in the foreign earned income exclusion and municipal bond interest.
Medicine Cabinet Tax (Page 324): Non-prescription medications would no longer be able to be purchased from health savings accounts (HSAs), flexible spending accounts (FSAs), or health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs). Insulin excepted.
Cap on FSAs (Page 325): FSAs would face an annual cap of $2500 (currently uncapped).
Increased Additional Tax on Non-Qualified HSA Distributions (Page 326): Non-qualified distributions from HSAs would face an additional tax of 20 percent (current law is 10 percent). This disadvantages HSAs relative to other tax-free accounts (e.g. IRAs, 401(k)s, 529 plans, etc.)
Denial of Tax Deduction for Employer Health Plans Coordinating with Medicare Part D (Page 327): This would further erode private sector participation in delivery of Medicare services.
Surtax on Individuals and Small Businesses (Page 336): Imposes an income surtax of 5.4 percent on MAGI over $500,000 ($1 million married filing jointly). MAGI adds back in the itemized deduction for margin loan interest. This would raise the top marginal tax rate in 2011 from 39.6 percent under current law to 45 percent—a new effective top rate.
Excise Tax on Medical Devices (Page 339): Imposes a new excise tax on medical device manufacturers equal to 2.5 percent of the wholesale price. It excludes retail sales and unspecified medical devices sold to the general public.
Corporate 1099-MISC Information Reporting (Page 344): Requires that 1099-MISC forms be issued to corporations as well as persons for trade or business payments. Current law limits to just persons for small business compliance complexity reasons. Also expands reporting to exchanges of property.
Delay in Worldwide Allocation of Interest (Page 345): Delays for nine years the worldwide allocation of interest, a corporate tax relief provision from the American Jobs Creation Act
Limitation on Tax Treaty Benefits for Certain Payments (Page 346): Increases taxes on U.S. employers with overseas operations looking to avoid double taxation of earnings.
Codification of the “Economic Substance Doctrine” (Page 349): Empowers the IRS to disallow a perfectly legal tax deduction or other tax relief merely because the IRS deems that the motive of the taxpayer was not primarily business-related.
Application of “More Likely Than Not” Rule (Page 357): Publicly-traded partnerships and corporations with annual gross receipts in excess of $100 million have raised standards on penalties. If there is a tax underpayment by these taxpayers, they must be able to prove that the estimated tax paid would have more likely than not been sufficient to cover final tax liability.

Insurance companies are businesses. The outcome of the business: they take your money without providing a service.
Where does the money go? It goes to employee people to take your money, rent buildings for the people to work in, supplying these people with computer systems to facilitate taking your money and the rest goes to their Profit Margin.
What does the public gain by having insurance? Nothing that would not be satisfied by putting your money into a savings account.

Get rid of insurance companies. Do not force these middle men on the people. Find another way to get political gain that does not take the ability for people to get healthcare away. After I pay for insurance, I do not have money left to pay the deductible. The insurance costs me 2-3 times what I would spend on Healthcare without insurance.

OK, here is the BIG idea:
...

A basic MRI=$3K+ and lets say your prem is $100 that single MRI= 2.5yrs worth of prem. I have a simple idea to fix this...
Equation: [3.5Million (per MRI including maintenance for 12yrs)] X [12 or more (MRIs, CTs, Ekgs etc)] X [50 states] X [10-12yrs] = 25.2B; just about a month's cost of Iraq war pays for over a decade of modalities...
This is just the starter kit as this idea is scalable such that no matter where you go, you would always have access so in-case you are thinking, "only good for preventatives" well, think again because all you have to do is to increase the amount of available modalities.
For example, for a more aggressive measure, in the case where a person is critically ill and cannot leave a hospital offering expensive modalities, I recommend as many as 100 modalities per state (enough to cover most hospitals and imaging centers nearby) so you're looking at around <250B (rough estimate).
Never again would average joes get hit with huge $3000 MRI and Colonoscopy bills because with this simple idea, modalities are covered up-front (via a fraction of this 1T gov't money or taxes or donations or premiums) so we don't have to pay thousands of dollars out-of-pocket while still being expected to make prem payments--which is one big reason most people forget to mention why many lose insurance coverage = huge uncovered modality bills.
With this innovative fool-proof idea that targets the problem from it's root (the non-covered = modalities), everyone wins. Please pass this on to your congressmen and Mr. President because this isn't Repub., Dem., or Independent, this would directly help millions of people for rich or for poor. For a more detailed description of this idea, please msg me. Thank you.

I drove truck for ten years, have been in freight brokerage for two years, the trucking industry is costing US billions of $ a year, 4000 Americans killed, & 80,000 injured in truck related accidents every year. I emailed the White House, US Chamber of Commerce, US Dept of Commerce, & my representative Walt Minnick with an idea that would save US billions, get US away from dependency on foreign oil, increase road, & food safety, reduce miles driven, dead head miles, reduce pollution, generate $ for infrastructure, & much more but I can't get a response?
Look at www.justice.org/violations
database/ & you can see right from the FMCSA that there are over 28,000 motor carriers with over 200,000 trucks on the road with violations, conditional & unsatisfactory ratings. There are thousands of trucks sitting in areas with no loads, no trucks where there are loads, & trucks running all over the country less than half full. Thousands of carriers are going broke, have been since 2007 when fuel prices went to $4.70 a gallon, the first thing they do is neglect equipment maintenance, hire bad, & inexperienced drivers for low pay so as to stay in business. Motor carriers run their business into the dirt, get bad safety scores, can't get good loads, take cheap freight, drag honest carriers down because rates are brought down, & the entire industry is running on an outdated model which is killing US financially as well as literally. Bad carriers get new MC#s, two three, four or more & the FMCSA doesn't have a clue because they get them in other family member names.
Just two weeks ago C R England sent out an email because a load was hi-jacked held hostage, cost $4000 to get the load back, plus almost $1000 from the warehouse where it was dropped, & the FBI didn't have resources to investigate? Homeland Security should have been called in. I can show you numbers, carriers with more than one MC#. Companies like England won't use a carrier with a safety score over 75 but will use the same carriers if they get a new MC# because they are hanging the liability on the FMCSA! Obama is about to appoint Anne Ferro to administrator of the FMCSA & if not mistaken she may have been a lobbyist for the trucking industry, claiming how safe trucking is. I drove truck for ten years & can show you how log books are manipulated, the truth in the trucking industry, it's costing US billions, & lives while driving up insurance costs. Our representative passed seat belt laws to help keep insurance costs down, why not get control of this mess?

The holidays are coming up, Americans will be dying for all the wrong reasons, reefers will fail resulting food poisoning, E. Coli, salmonella. The US Chamber of Commerce, US Dept of Commerce, our representatives, & Obama refuse to listen to one guy. Downsize has a lobby right, help me show these guys the problems, & how to fix the mess to save lives, billions of $, promote food safety, get the FMCSA in control of carriers, reduce miles, oil dependency, pollution, generate $ for infrastructure, & more.
My representatives don't listen so what good are they? We are in the same boat as 9/11, financial crisis, health care reform, warnings are there but I can't get anything done. Representatives line their own pockets, are in bed with campaign finance, ripped US off for trillions of $ through campaign finance, Social Security, the current financial crisis, health care, illegal immigration, & more.
These clowns had US fighting communism for years, millions of Americans died or were wounded, now they can't hand communist China this nation fast enough through free trade. Let me know, I can prove every word of this email through the FMCSA's own documentation & more. Add in www.opensecrets.org www.ewg.org www.pbs.org Frontline: The Warning All the facts are there, we need to get the corruption out of DC, & out of our representation.
There was an article by the NY times just the other day, Lobbyist ghostwrite for lawmakers, actually write bills passed by people we elect! Why elect them if they don't even write the bills, outsource our representation?

Reuben Worster of Lincoln, NE is a US Veteran, NOT a banker who broke US, he lost thousands of $ in the failure of Commonwealth Savings & Loan in 10-1983. Commonwealth was ripped off through the courts by Nebraska legislature & their partners in crime just as We the People were in the recent financial crisis. The receiver for Commonwealth stole over a million $ but why not, NE representatives & their partners in crime were stealing millions as well.
Commonwealth failure made 60 minutes. Reuben is a US Veteran, did everything he was suppose to do as an American, fought in WW2, worked his entire life, saved thousands of $ to care for his handicapped son, & was robbed by the same government that is robbing US today, same that will continue to rob US unless we do something about it. Every 18 year old kid who is considering the military, to fight for this country should be told, if they come home alive, they will pay the rest of their lives for the crimes by our mis-representatives today. Like Reuben they will get no thanks, phony Veteran's Day holidays will only be a reminder they were ripped off in more ways than the rest. Veteran's Day is like every holiday, just a paid day off.
I have thousands of pages of documentation Reuben sent me, he wants justice before he passes, he is 87 years old. I'm one American who will not tolerate a government of the people which robs veterans who fought for their country.

If the American people don't stand up & send an email to the White House in support of Reuben Worster you all deserve to be robbed as Reuben was.
Tell Obama there is a man in this nation who needs to be repaid, he isn't a great mind on Wall Street who broke US & we needed to bail out, Reuben is a man who fought for our freedom.
Every American who reads this should send an email to Obama, if we're going to bail out the crooks who broke US to the tune of billions after they made trillions, we can afford to help one veteran recoup $ stolen from a veteran fought for our freedom.
