A hypocrit is someone who says one thing and does another. Al Gore passionately believes in the environmental movement and working to reduce carbon emissions. He doesn't just talk it, he lives it. You may not like his politics, but a hypocrit he's not.

Thanks Lisa! Just like the scientists at MIT who are saying its global cooling that's coming, and it's about the sun. This is why "global warming" was quietly changed to "climate change" Just get ready to pay a carbon tax. it's coming.

When Al Gore first became VP, I was so excited as he was "handed the reins" to the environmental policy. Now, after years of hearing him say one thing and doing something completely different, I am astounded by his popularity. Maybe he should try flying commercial and stop buying carbon points for his private jet. Maybe he should take a note on ... See MorePERSONAL responsibility and invest in something like Geothermal which even George W has at his ranch. Maybe he should figure out how not to use as much electricity in one home as an entire small town. Maybe if he wants to sell electric cars they should be manufactured in the US (especially considering the funds he got from the gov) and sold at a reasonable price-point. Or maybe he should just go away...

It's always possible that global warming isn't what we think it is, but the facts seem to support the hypothesis. Further, if we are the cause or (or contributing to) it and we do nothing, then our situation will continue to deteriorate and then we will have more serious problems. This isn't scare tactics, it's just plain common sense - we have ... See Morethe power to do something about our own contributions to climate change so that any impact - whether it turns out small or large - is minimized. The upshot is that we also get to develop cleaner technologies to reduce pollution which is definitely a good thing. Really it's win-win, and what's even better is that all of us can individually contribute to the effort - we don't need to wait for government to do it for us.

I am not a scientist, and I unfortunately cannot do the research myself, unless it constitutes forming opinions from other peoples work. I hear so many conflicting opinions whether we as humans are hurting our planet, or if this is a natural occurance that our planet goes through.

I just think it's about time that we become more responsible as ... See Morepeople and do our part to recylce when it behoovs us and waste less. See Morewould stay off those jets he flies around in to go on his million buck speaking tours. Let him do everything via satellite, Why does MIT disagree with him? why is the rest of the scientific community starting to come around to the sun cycle theory, And I voted for that guy and I'm a independent liberal, so it has nothing to do with politics, just tired of hearing non facts being stated as truth.

He never really answered Jon's idea, which was: "Hey, Exxon-Mobil, we'll GIVE you a nice position in the solar power industry if you switch to it!" I guess the main complication with turning gas stations into power stations is that it's hard to get electricity there. It is doubtful that a solar power station in the middle of nowhere in a wooded, mountainy part of Virginia (which is where I go to college, VT woooo) would generate enough power for the people that need it.

its a lot of fooling around, the sun has gotten hotter since 1850 or something, and global problems are truly real when u see floods, storms and strange weather all over the world. But most likely the reason is the heat of the sun that also can twist the poles all around and turn into a catastrophy. Doesnt mean people can keep on cutting down ... See Moreforest, eating meat several times a day (which is not necessary), drive cars with gas when they could be hybrid or hydrogen etc. too bad people dont work for those things but leave up to companies that already are rich and dont care to take the problems in their hands. just like regular people dont care to change how they eat etc. so GET READY for a food chrisis (for example when bees are all dead, plus some more floods that are getting worse every year for those who follow).

Here is a bottom line for all of you.... Screw politics, Bias, and the debates. Honestly as a culture of educated beings, we missed the BIG picture here and are concentrating on who is wrong and who is right.... And that is what the Fuel companies want us to do. B/c if there is some fighting and uncertinty, then there will always be people to ... See Morebuy their products. Here is a suggestion, get your heads outta the dirt and look around. Who cares how much/little skewed studies "prove" we Emit into the atmosphere, who cares about what politicians say, and who cares what corporations think we should buy. Chew on this.... We dont know if gloabal warming is happening or not, we dont know if it is naturally occuring or if we brought this upon our self. Personally I think its both... but either way, why does that leave CLEANING OUR EARTH UP FOR DEBATE!!!! We should be cleaning it up and making it a better place to live REGARDLESS of Pending doom of global warming. Think about it for a second.... really.... If we can manufacture cleaner energy and products, why does there have to be a debate.... Just STFU, realize your oil, coal, etc is obsolete, and do either 1 of 2 things. Make a better product that will trump the one that trumped yours, or take the billions you made over the many years of selling your product and quit complaining. In conclusion, quit fighting with eachother b/c of your different political standings, work together to make a cleaner earth, and stop trying to prove one another right and wrong. Just work towards a cleaner and better earth for our future and children's future, and leave the politics and others stuff that corrupts us as a society at the door.

@Tom: It's because cleaning our earth up costs money, and is a long term solution, something conservatives reject like a surgery patient with a baboon heart.

We're never going to see change as long as Republicans are so strongly united against any cause the left is on and in the pocket of oil and energy companies (same goes for healthcare reform with pharmaceutical and insurance corporations).

But hey, the rest of the world are a bunch of downtrodden commies with government controlled nightmare healthcare and costly alternate energy sources that would never work for us here, right?... See More

Ryan, CO2 is rarely the limiting factor in plant growth. We water plants, expose them to light, and make sure they have plenty of nitrogen and phosphorus; we don't usually worry about carbon. There was plenty of CO2 around for plants when it was down in the 250 ppm range.

I think we're pretty much screwed until some sort of major disaster kills most of the population. There's simply no way for humans to keep reproducing without thoroughly destroying the environment. @Nathan Yes I agree is costs alot, and thats the problem, it should be free to do. Unlike what that fool Chris said, The earths environment should NOT take a back seat.

@Chris (Mr. Gungho) 1st off, w/o an atmosphere, there wouldnt be nations to secure ya tool, and trust me, my masters in Atmospheric Sciences assures me of that. And 2nd off, do... See More you think there would be wars in the middle east right now if Oil was obsolete and the sun was the main source of energy? You should know as a fellow military person, you shouldnt come to a battle unarmed..... This was a battle of wits and apparently you have been disarmed for a while now. As for Obama.... honestly, your going to tell me McCain was any better. Yea, they both have their ups and downs, but it has no place in a discussion on the well being of the world. See Morestarvation, disease, and physical violence? Blunt force trauma? But hey the planet will be safe for whatever or whoever survives. Doesn't that scenario sound wonderful?

Are you looking forward to the death of your friends and family? Perhaps you could move them all to a foreign country and the US Government could kill them all for you, before this disaster? And I am not a left-winger but agree with many "left wingers", e.g. Glenn Greenwald and Patrick Cockburn, on many things. I am a noninterventionist.

And I don't deny climate ... See Morechange I just think it absurd to think that the United States can make any progress towards cleaning up the environment while it maintains 700+ military bases around the world. As Carlin said 'Oh no, the planet, the planet!!.... hey, the planet will be fine. It's us that will be fooked.'

I don't litter. I take public transit whenever possible. I turn off the lights when I leave the house. I'm doing my part to lower my 'footprint' (as much as I hate hearing this 'carbon footprint' shit).

If anyone looks at the planet's history, CO2 increase (after things like volcanoes) is ALWAYS followed by a wicked boost in plant growth. There's the re-balancing thing Olusesan mentioned, plus it should make all the tree huggers happy. In the new game plan, big companies have to buy carbon credits for CO2 emissions - well, guess what - they can afford it. We, the little folk will be the ones who have to pay the full price via taxes, while the giants can buy their way out of making/stalling changes. And why are we attacking CO2? What about hundreds of other chemicals and pollutants they put out? Like CO that they briefly mentioned... that's actually poison, yet there are no rules being applied to that as of right now. People makes faces at smokers, then get into their cars and put out more monoxide in 3 blocks than a pack of cigarettes would.... See More

I'd like to think that I am not a paranoid lunatic, but here's my thought - patriot act 1 gave the Gov't and their subsidiaries the right to spy, tap and track potential terrorist suspects. The revised patriot act gave them the right to track and haul away anyone who disagreed with the mainstream political views. The MIAC report made Ron Paul supporters and gun owners 'domestic terrorists'. So, following that pattern, how long will it be before we go from saving the planet, to getting licenses to have kids... after all they need to breathe and that makes CO2.

During the Peloponnesian Wars, the 'nobility' was screaming 'overpopulation' and 'saving the planet' - so did Hitler - that was his platform to get into power. No I am not comparing Obama or Gore to Hitler... I am merely pointing out that for millenniums they use 'saving the planet' to push their agendas. That is all there is to it. Pushing agendas. Not to mention Gore's huge financial investments into new energy technologies. Just like Pelosi backing the bailout, cuz she had millions invested.

It shouldn't matter if I did or didnt leave the Military life man.... I can assure you that most of the 17+ yr old ppl who joined have no idea what kind of pollutants can come from a ship. Its Disturbing though that you hate those people who have strapped on the boots to fight for you, and haven't been educated in how their ships operate or what ... See Morepollutants they give off, that you would assume and call them "Imperial Whores".... Thats like believing in racial stereotypes.... B/c someone was or is in the military, they are automatically, in your mind, a bad person that pollutes the oceans and atmosphere.... What you need to realize is this... It is not the soldiers or sailors that pollute, it is the big corporations that have contracts w/ the higher echelon of the US Military. The people you are taking it out on are the ones who do stuff they dont like, take orders, and fight so people like yourself can have an opinion and voice it. I agree we have become more of an empire as well, and I agree it is hard to make a change when under that massive empire... but to think all hope is lost and have that "why fight it when you cant beat it" attitude isnt helping. If people weren't lazy and would excersice their thoughts and concerns at the same time, instead of hoping for the best, this country would have changed years ago after the 1st Bush administration. I think if we all quit doubting ourselfs and the power that the people hold when in masses, something good will finally get done in this country and get us back on track. Think of the groups of the 70's, protesters and such, they made it into history books, movies, and a whole entire culture that even exists today.... That mass of people was maybe 1/25th of the people that lived in America at that time, but they got noticed and were able to make a big change. What to say that this generation cant do the same, and if not better w/ the advanced technology and unlimited ways of communication that we have now that they did not have back then?

Never mind that the overall polar bear population has increased from about 5000 in the 1960s to 25,000 today, and that the only two populations in decline come from areas where it has actually been getting colder over the past 50 years. Also ignore the fact that polar bears were around 100,000 years ago, long before at least one important ... See Moreinterglacial period when it was much warmer than the present. Clearly, they survived long periods of time when the climate of the Arctic was much warmer than today. Yet they are not expected to survive this present warming without help from government regulators.

Wow Edgar, way to Caps lock fail...... Here is what you wrote: "One simple fact we dont have the fuel to sustain global warming for any longer than the supply of fuel. So in a couple hundred years it won't be an issue anymore.". To me that sounds like you are saying "lets wait for the fuel to run out before we consider caring for the environment... See More". And what is with the TOMBOY thing EDDIBOY? Does calling me that make you right, or just look retarded....hmmmm. Anyways, back to the conversation.... I never said people have to get rid of their cars, all i said was summed up, Stop fighting, work together to find a better and cleaner way, and quit debating if global warming is or isnt happening. b/c either way, if it is or isnt, we all have to live on this earth for X number of years, and i dont see why there is a debate if it should be a clean earth or a dirty one... B/c i dont think anyone in their right mind wants to live in a dirty one... Now for your final statement of seeing the bigger issue and grow up.... I can't see where you have any grounds to say that... I am grown up.... I am working to help better the environment, and calling out someone who sounds like they were saying "screw the environment". You obviously aren't "grown up" enough to realize that what you said was a HORRIBLE Idea and makes me think you have your hand in the Exxon-Mobile cookie jar. The overall issue is that there shouldn't be an issue, and that is what you FAIL to see. That was my point from the start of this rant.... Global warming, if it does or does not exist due to humans, should not be a factor in a debate against if we should clean up our environment or not, and that is what it has become..... Were is the logic in it when some clown says "Global warming isn't caused by humans, so lets continue polluting since it isn't our fault". Its obserd and extremely uneducated.

Creating and disposing of photovoltaic solar panels create toxic waste.

When we look at the full life-cycle of PV solar panels, they don't pan out, environmentally.

We don't need to change how we get energy AS MUCH AS we need to use less -- and there are only two viable ways to do that: ... See More
(1) Rewrite the infrastructure of virtually every modern nation, to enable the same standards of living and quality of life with far less energy consumption (local jobs, walkable communities close to nature and locally grown food, water, and adequate energy sources
and/or
(2) Reduce the world's population (preferably through economic incentives and social PR programs)

HOW are THOSE viable?!!

Because they are the only options that will work.

Geothermal, tidal, wave, solar, nuclear, wind -- we can switch over to those, but, in the end, they are inadequate AND they all have hidden downsides when scaled up.

Right on, Louis Nuyens iii !!! I couldn't have stated it better. Brian Stripling, I hope you're being facetious. There may be some hype and noticible methods of propaganda surrounding the spreading of the climate change message, but it's based in sound science, and that's not a "big lie or hoax or scam."

What if it's not a scam? What if you're wrong and it's all very real and true. What if people like you are responsible for our children inheriting a world less than our own? Are you going to tell your children that you stood in the way in a time of crisis? That you're at least partially responsible for the state things are in?

Even if it is the goals being advocated are surely good ones. Less pollution, better management of nature resources, and industrial progress how are any of these things bad?

I think all this opposition is based in fear. The fear that we as a race actually does have the power to ruin our world with something less than nuclear weapons. A single volcano changed our climate for years (Look up the little ice age), but billions of humans can't put a single volcano to shame? Really?... See More

All I would ask is that you sit and as objectively as you can about why you are so opposed to the possibility. Is it based on real solid reason or fear?

Huh? You are all going to go along with this just so a corrupted power can control the outcome of the verdict on the mentally insane... I get your real health care sinister reason: it is the same as the Vryl's in Germany...

220-215... Supermajority... means you have two thirds the house in democratic partied separation... yet when the house has 435 members the supermajority must be two thirds and not just over one half.

Now, and excuse me for owning a copy of the Constitution but'?' has anybody in congress really read the United States instruction manual, because I think they are confused... or are truly attempting to just defeat all reason.... See More

To pass a bill it requires 2/3 total quorum. In the health care reform bill all were seated, 215+220=435, yet it requires 290 to pass a bill.

You must be getting this confused with what is written in Article II which concerns how a vote in Congress will deside a President after electoral college voting: this being a normal majority as it is more than yay or nay...

This is an attempt to directly undercut order in respect of the Constitution. To allow this: is in principle: Nationally unforgivable to a Presidency.

If you are done with that Constitution... you can donate it to the same fund which revoked the library of Alexandria... immolation to discord and anarchy... just a bit of flagration to deflag a nation, conflagration and then deflagration the capital again: just to insure vryl victory... but then where does it stop: you start cutting the ears of those who might pose an issue: just to mark them: pig trick when first born...
