Would you like the nurse coming in to see your child and not washing their hands? I don't think so! My child had 3 open heart surgeries there and if they did not wash their hand everytime they touched him I would of been pissed!

what might be good bacteria normally is bad bacteria for any immune compromised person, which includes most hospital patients!

While I agree that society as a whole might be taking the whole thing a bit too far, you won't hear me complaining. My daughter is a transplant kiddo and immuno-compromised. She can't afford any bad bacteria--from anyone.

Unfortunately there are not any "good" bacteria that live on hands and on surfaces of things. We have known the benefits of hand hygiene since the 1800s and since that time, many infections have been prevented by hand hygiene. We have fancy technologies to prevent infections when the biggest impact comes from soap and water that says A LOT!

Unfortunately our bacteria have changed since the 1800s. We are seeing more drug resistant and virulent bacteria circulating in our communites. The BEST way to prevent this spread is though frequent hand hygiene. Its an act that is made simple through our hand sanitizers.
Some may feel like they "never get sick" but as the other postings indicate, there are many people in our communities that could be seriously harmed by the bacteria found on hands. By washing your hands, you protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community.
