BBC Security Correspondent Frank Gardner knows spinal injury first-hand. While filming in Saudi Arabia in 2004, he and his crew were ambushed by Al-Qaeda sympathisers. His cameraman, Simon Cumbers, was killed. Frank, shot six times, was left paraplegic from wounds to the lower spine. After 12 operations, he has returned to his full-time job at the BBC. Although based in a wheelchair, he still reports from the field and has resumed skiing and scuba diving without the use of his legs. Here, Frank gives insight into the challenges of daily life with spinal injury, and explains why he supports the NSIF.
