I’d probably have used it. Seriously, this dude is casually emptying his trash over Savage St bridge as if it’s the new ‘bommeh’. We really need to take responsibility for our actions. Next time you’re passing through the Savage St Bridge, have a peek over the bridge. Either side.

Shan, most of what you want to know is on the web site
www.visitsierraleone.org accommodation and lists of hotels, pick up driver service...cruise the site. Standard of living is hard to gauge without knowing what your client is accustomed to.

This is a sort of update following the article on the pain I went through trying to register a sole-proprietorship business in Salone. Silly me for trying to go through the process again...

Great anticipation followed the announcement and high profile launch of Arik Air, which was branded as Sierra Leone’s National Airline. Of particular interest is the Freetown-London route which could well benefit from some competition...

Why is Sierra Leone still failing to attract tourists seven years after the end of the war? This was the question the Minister of Tourism was asked on the BBC World Service about three weeks ago...
Charles at 12:34pm April 12
We spoke with the Minister of Tourism when he was here with the President, he made several promises about having us work with them on promoting tourism in SL and we could never get a return telephone call or response to our emails since he went back.

December 15th 2008 marked my first year in being back in Sierra Leone. Friends know I said it was a one year project… but they also know things take longer in Sierra Leone so I’ll be hanging around these for a while longer... a long while longer by the looks of it...

I couldn’t agree with him about Freetown, which for my money is the prettiest town on the West African coast — good beaches, fine old colonial buildings and the mountaintop suburb of Hill Station, sprinkled with wonderful old stilted bungalows. Of course it’s ramshackle, with terrible traffic and so...

the problems for tourism are manyfold. Last time I went I had to wait 3-4 hours STANDING in the airport with my kids when leaving. There are no tourist guides/maps at the airport to show you bars, pools, golf and places of intrest to visit and the prices of the 3star hotels is the same as in Europe whilst you would expect it to be cheaper (... Read Moreespecially since tourist already paid a lot to get there). Don't get me wrong : I like Salone a lot since I'm married to one and will probably go there again so I would like to see things improve but I guess the government does not invest into tourism or comfort for tourists (you can't even easily find a recent map or guide of the country, I found one that was +10 years old). Best way would be to have at least a tourist office at the airport itself so tourists know where to turn to (with free leaflets and maps that could be partly sponsored by the businesses), improve amenities and then market Salone in travel guides published in Europe.
Rob at 3:06pm April 14
also how come mayor credit cards are not accepted by airlines and bars etc (Visa/Mastercard). That's important for tourists too if they want to spend money but not carry it. I expected at least in the capital Freetown that mayor banks would have this system but to no aveil. You can only use Thomas Cook or cash dollars.....

Every time I head up country, the same thought inevitably occupies my mind for most of the journey. There’s just so much unused land up country but yet it feels like 40% of the population resides in Freetown. There’s something very wrong with our land laws...
