From a business owners perspective, if you do not shop local and support local businesses, you will get exactly what you do not want (a vacant downtown, a million strip malls, and nothing to be proud of as a resident). Small independent businesses need your support, or they simply will not exist. You need to trust the fact that the value from a shoppers POV is higher in these stores, no matter what you spend.
