What Does the Virginia Animal Control Association (VACA) do for members? • Publishes a quarterly newsletter to keep members abreast of animal issues, training, changes in State laws, and high profile cases throughout the state • Hosts schools and workshops, including the annual VACA conference, which provide continui...ng education credit • Offers scholarships for schools and training and provides information on scholarships available through other agencies • Provides expertise, resources and referrals to members to assist them in resolving local animal issues with elected officials • Provides a means for members to network, share and learn from other agencies for the development of local ordinances, policies and procedures • Hosts the VACA web page at www.vacaonline.net • Works to insure that the voices of animal care and control professionals are heard in the General Assembly • Publishes the Comprehensive Animal Laws in a handy pocket edition each year so that members have up to date codes for easy reference and use • Awards outstanding performance in the animal care and control fields • Works with other agencies to promote professional animal control and the protection of animals • Provides members with membership to the National Animal Control Association (NACA) and a subscription to their quarterly magazine, NACA NewsLlegeix-ne més

As I write this, I find it hard to believe October has already come and gone. It has been quite a busy and exciting month for us at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine! We have had a month full of activities and were so pleased to have many of you join us for these events.

John Strauss passed away this morning after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Please keep him, his wife Betty, their son Johnny and his family in your prayers. John was a tremendous selfless man who cherished his time spent at the Veterinary School helping to train all of us. We are all better veterinarians and... people because of John's presence. A crowd of about 200 gathered in Blacksburg on Friday to honor dogs lost in the line of duty.

The Virginia Law Enforcement K-9 Memorial was dedicated in ceremonies outside of the veterinary college on October 16, 2009. Virginia Attorney General Bill Mims provided the keynote address.
The memorial consists of a life-size bronze German Shepherd law enforcement dog sculpted by Blacksburg artist Larry Bechtel. Loca...ted adjacent to the main entrance of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, it is installed upon a granite base that will denote the names of Virginia law enforcement dogs that have lost their lives in the line of duty.Llegeix-ne més

To the entire College:John Strauss, a retired employee of the College who worked in both MDL and the Physiology Lab, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was discharged from Radford Hospital yesterday, and his prognosis is not good. He is currently at home in Riner ...under Hospice care. His wife Betty, has said he has only a few weeks to live, because his disease is advanced and there is no treatment available to him beyond palliative care. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
