Many of you are looking for work in this economy, and for more than a year, VW has promised to bring hundreds of high paying jobs. The automaker has received more than 25,000 applications for what equates to only a few hundred jobs.

Workers of Southern Fabrication Contractors LLC, Chattanooga, are erecting the first equipment in the paint paint shop at Volkswagen's new Chattanooga plant.

After months of intense talks, Volkswagen officials said Wednesday a supplier park that could hold 15 companies or more will go up next to the automaker's Chattanooga assembly plant.

A Chattanooga construction firm has been awarded a $1.88 million contract for work at the Volkswagen plant. Thomas Brothers Construction will do site work and erect fences at the Training Center at the huge new plant at the Enterprise South Industrial Park.

They said there's no advantage to filing for the production jobs early in the three-week application window, which will remain open until midnight Nov. 15. A lottery-like process is to be used to evaluate the applications. Hiring isn't expected to start until early next year.
