Rice is the most important cereal grain crop in the world, helping to sustain human life in all parts of the globe. In Louisiana, we just know that we gotta have it, in all kinds of delicious dishes, from jambalaya, gumbo and rice, or just some good rice and gravy.

Help your Vermilion Parish Library celebrate National ...Rice Month. Stop by any library branch and drop off your favorite rice recipes. We’re putting together a Rice Cookbook! Anyone who contributes a recipe will get credit in the book, and get a free copy of the finished cookbook. So dig out that great boudin or jambalaya recipe, or maybe submit your twist on Crispy Rice Cereal Treats or Creamy Rice Pudding. From Appetizers to Dessert, if you’re cooking great rice dishes, we want to publish them! Recipes accepted thru September 30 at all branches of your Vermilion Parish Library. Please send them on regular letter sized paper, and either typed or written legibly. Feel free to include a story about the recipe, and make sure your name, address and phone number or on the back.

This fall, your Vermilion Parish Library has planned a new series of events called "Women First', dedicated to the interests, wants and needs of contemporary women. The first event, “Skin Care for All Ages,” is scheduled Thursday, September 17, 6 – 8 PM in the Abbeville branch of the library. Louisiana cooking is as special as it is because there’s a story attached to every dish. Abbeville native Janice Bourgeois “Boo” Macomber has quite a few stories to tell, and delicious dishes to go with them. She will appear at the Abbeville branch of the Vermilion Parish Library Monday, September 14 at 6 PM to sign ...copies of her newest cookbook, Tastes, Tails and Tales and treat everyone to a taste of the recipes as well as the stories contained within its covers. Copies of Tastes, Tails and Tales will be available for purchase at the book signing.
The book signing is free and open to the public. Space is limited, so registration is required. Please stop by the Abbeville branch of the Vermilion Parish Library and register for this fun event today!
