WalkJogRun Newsletter

We run this site in our spare time so to call it a monthly newsletter would be a stretch but we certainly try to send one each month. The newsletter is packed with tips for using the site, announcements about new features or things we think you'll be interested in related to Walking, Jogging or Running (or any of the other sports you do).

WalkJogRun With a foot of snow due in Chicago in the next 24 hours it looks like a treadmill workout may be the order of business tomorrow. What are your tips for keeping it interesting?

Pyramid speed training session. 1 mile (1.6km) warmup. 400m fast. 2 min walk/slow jog. 600m slightly slower than the 400m. 2 min walk/slow jog. 800m slightly slower again. 2 min walk/jog. Then repeat in reverse order - another 800m, 600m and 400m at the same speeds as before. And then a short cool-down at the end. For example, I usually run at 10km... See More per hour. My last session I did 400m at 12km/hr, 600m at 11.5km/hr and 800m at 11lkm/hr. The trick is to be able to run the last 400m at the same pace as the first 400m.

I've been through this in my training, too. For me, I trek through training knowing that at the end of it I will have accomplished something few people have done. In the meantime, finding a running buddy, even something as little as switching up your music or running routes (which we have plenty of!) can help you get back into the swing of things. Or, this worked during one of my downs, buy a new piece of running gear. This may get you excited to try it out.

Hope this helps! -Briana

WalkJogRun New feature pushed live. I've added an option when creating a route or viewing a route to reverse it. Twice this morning I was looking at a route I wanted to run the opposite way. One was a loop so not a big deal but the other was a one way out starting from where I was hoping to finish. Hit "Reverse Route" when ed...iting a route to flip the start and end points!

oooh BRILLIANT! I mapped one of mine the wrong way and the mile markers annoy me so this is so cool!

I would like to be able to move the start point of a route from where it is, to the mid-point (or some other point) on the route. The reason is that I have 100+ routes, all starting from my home! When I want a good run that goes out by Ridge Rd, for instance, it would have been nice to have *started* my route out there, so the icon would direct to ... See Moreit. From now on, I will always build my routes from the farthest point from my home -- and not my driveway! But would be nice to convert all my existing ones.

have you given any thought to making it so you could click a point on a curvy road and then click farther down the road and have it mark the route between the 2 points instead of having to click, click, click around the corners

I'm aiming to run all the way round the 26 mile outer circle bus route in 2 or three goes - and that will involve running half way round one way then getting the bus back, I think. Or maybe i'll get th ebus to the other side of town and run back!

WalkJogRun Caught part of a really interesting story on NPR last night about barefoot running. Really interesting differences in heel strike (or lack thereof) between shoed and non-shoed runners. Check it out here http://bit.ly/aSZsNo and discuss!

Researchers say that people who learned to run barefoot put less stress on their feet and legs than their shod peers. And it's more energy efficient, too. Barefoot is, after all, the natural way to run.

I wonder has Robert read Born to Run yet? I suffered from various injuries in my feet and shins. Got a pair of vibrams and my feet and lower legs have gotton alot stronger and no more pain. Barefoot running all the way! :)
