Please join us and invite everyone: Harper is Seeing to Women/ Being Left Out/ in the Cold
"In only two years, the Harper government has done a great deal to dismantle major advances won by the women's movement, working with woman-friendly governments, over the previous 30 years — advances such as family law reform, pay equity, maternity and parental leave benefits, modest improvements to childcare programs, domestic violence programs and much more.
Cheryl Binning (Canadian arts reporter) just wrote a great blog post on the National Screen Institute website (we're one of the four national training schools whose funding has been slashed by Harper). She does a great job of explaining how the cuts impact the industry and the economy and Harper’s reference to the “average Canadian.”
Alex - yeah, being creative and accessing my artistic side completely misses the point of supporting the arts. Why be artistic when dealing with the arts huh?
It seems to me that many of us who are making own own "faceless" icons are making to sure include the words "faceless for the arts." So, we are indeed united in what we are doing. Some people will complain about anything huh? Is that how you show support? By chastising those who are trying to do something good? Very helpful that.
You have a nice day.

I really liked something Charles Pachter said at a forum on the current Cdn gov't & Arts; the discussion had gravitated toward France, of course, & Mr. Pachter said something like: "The French treat their artists like Canadians treat hockey players". I want some of that!

I likw how the people going 'faceless' in order to show how bad an absence of art would be just make their profile pictures artsy and blurred out over their faces. Also, its a good thing everyone is doing it completely differently, otherwise some kind of unity might be shown, and obviously this cause can't have that.
It's ironic that Harper's opportunistic "for the common people" ideas are so far out of touch with what the majority of everyday Canadians really want.
