There is no need to feel all cabin feverish when you live in Washington. It may be rainy in the lowlands, but it is wonderfully snowy up high. Snowshoeing and cross country skiing options abound. And with a bit of pre-planning, you can clear your head with an invigorating day in the snow.

Washington Trails Association The West Tiger Mountain trails are some of the best places to hike this time of year. Choose the route described in our Hiking Guide or consult your map and make your own adventure. Note that there can be snow on the trail, especially at the summits, so be prepared or stay at low elevations.

From Bridge Repairs to Restoring Access, Backcountry Trails Face Uncertainty Without Key Federal Grants from the National Recreation Trails Program.

Colorful aspens still dotted Umtanum Canyon a week ago. This hike near Ellensburg is a little known gem and one the best hikes in spring and fall for spotting wildlife, including big horn sheep.

Washington Trails Association WTA and Friends of the Gorge co-host an informational gathering to hear about the Cape Horn Recreation Plan Environmental Assessment (EA). The EA proposes significant changes to this popular hiking trail. Hear a short presentation on the trail's history and opportunities to get involved in future projects to improve the Cape Horn recreation area. Food and beverages are available for purchase at the restaurant.

It's a mid-week day in November, but if you're game, next Wednesday is a great day to head out to the woods to check the new-fallen snow. In other news to file away until the spring, the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest has completed repairs on the Cascade River Road.

Steven Payne It was great seeing a full work party on Poo Poo Point trail today! Make sure they get extra treats -- it was a rough morning up there!
