Andy Hammond PORTLAND — About 150 Portland public school employees are eligible for a proposed retirement incentive that will be considered by the School Committee on Wednesday night.

The proposal applies to teachers, educational technicians and other employees who have reached retirement age – 60 or 62, depending on when they entered the Maine Public Employee Retirement System – and have been in the system at least 25 years.

Employees would receive a one-time payment of $10,000, or annual payments to cover the cost of continued health benefits through Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maine until age 65, when full Medicare benefits start.

Donald N. Burdwood Jr. Nice job making our Firefighters look greedy. What happened to the consessions they gave up to get the raise in the first place? All they have given up to the city over the last few years to get to this point? Cities reluctance to return consessions even if raise was returned? City saving layoffs as a suprise until after negotiations? Police recieving their raise with no layoffs? Selective journalism? You weren't alone, Press Hearald decided not to report the whole story also. Thank heaven for the Portland Daily Sun.... still a fan though.

Debbie Genereux Hi Everyone! I've been watching Channel 6 News since we moved here to Maine about 9 years ago. Channel 8 has a looong way to go before they ever can even reach the
greatness of Channel 6...just my opinion :-) Anyway, I use to love listening to Ch. 6 on the radio in my car on the way to and from work. Now, all I hear is some foreign language on that channel. Is Ch. 6 on the radio anymore at all and if so, what station?

there are 2 channels on the AM band, one is 1470 and the other is 610 i believe but i am not 100% on the second one

870 AM (Portland) and 1470 AM (Auburn/Lewiston) carry NEWS CENTER Morning Reports Monday through Sunday and NEWS CENTER evening reports (5PM-6:30PM) Monday through Friday.

Those are the only programs carried by these stations because of copyright laws.

Just wish you had mentioned the fact that they have given up raises for the last three years,even before bad economy and down sized by a rescue truck but I can't have everything.
