The celebration will be held at the new Crush Wine Bar (the former Loft) in downtown Whitefish.

A reading by Montana author Pete Fromm will highlight the evening. We will also showcase poet Lowell Jaeger and two young writers from previous issues. 12-year old Mason Brubake...r and 17-year old Katie McGunagle will read for the first time.

Live music by Frank O'Brien, art and photography from past and present Whitefish Review contributors, coffee and dessert by Montana Coffee Traders, and a variety of wine and craft beers will complete the evening.

We dropped off a small donation at our local food bank in Folsom about 10 days ago. Donation to the library, too. Absolutely -- it's all about our communities.

Whitefish Review Hosts Food Drive at Safeway on Friday
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Non-Profits Helping Non-profits to Put Hunger to Bed

WHITEFISH – Whitefish Review will host a food drive at Safeway on Nov. 13 from 4-8 p.m, with local musicians Frank & Kate O’Brien lending some tunes to the affair. Patrons to the store will be asked to donate food items to the North Valley Food Bank.

“The story of hunger in Whitefish and the Flathead Valley is very real,” said Lyndsay Schott, business development manager for the art and literary journal. “As a non-profit ourselves, we are constantly in the mode of asking people to help support our educational literary venture. We wanted to give something back and begin a trend of non-profits helping other non-profits. We’re all in this together.”

162 families are fed on a weekly basis from the North Valley Food Bank, based in Whitefish. The Food Bank is anticipating a greater need over the next few weeks with the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday and recent Idaho Timber Company layoffs. In addition, families from neighboring towns who are in need of food and have used up their allotment visit the Whitefish food bank for additional help.

“We are looking for easy snacks for kids and Thanksgiving items,” says June Munski-Feenan, the North Valley Food bank director. “Hunters can also arrange to drop off their excess meat. Our crew of volunteers knows how to cut it up and that’s really great for our families.”

Those who can’t make the food drive on Friday and want to make a contribution may mail checks to North Valley Food Bank, 311 First St, Whitefish, MT 59937. “When people donate money, we are able to buy more food at a discount. Whether it is food purchased from the store or a monetary donation, we are very thankful.”

The Whitefish Review is thanking all of its supporters. Reminder: March 19th at Turner Ski Day Fundraiser, $30

The Whitefish Review

The Whitefish Review With the last day of winter just 19 days away, we began to think about ways to celebrate another great ski season-there are only 5 weeks left of the lifts running here in town. And only 15 days until we close submissions for our summer issue.

Well, we decided to rent an entire ski mountain for the day on the last day of... winter-and invite you to join us at Turner Mountain on March 19 for a day of skiing and cheer and maybe even raise a couple dollars for the printing of issue #5. We'll raffle off a few items at the end of the day around a campfire in the parking lot and beverages will be provided by Lang Creek Brewery. Ryan might even bring a block of spicy cheese and some crackers, served on a round of larch.

If you've never skied Turner, you'll want to. This cool, unknown ski resort in Libby (80 miles west of Whitefish) is closed mid-week, so hopefully the powder will pile up for us. Cost of the event is just $30. Order online or call to mail your check and sign up.

Don't forget, the next submission deadline is March 15th.

Hope to see you at Turner Mountain!
