Paul Freeney Hi everybody. Just joined this group & would like to introduce myself. I am a wildlife photographer in Dublin & record on an almost daily basis the wildlife at Northwood Lake in Santry. See some of my wildlife images on my blog: http://northwoodpondr.wordpress.com/

Ireland's Wildlife IWDG have confirmed that the dead humpback found in the Thames does not match any of the photo ID records on their catalogue of humpback whales recorded in Irish waters. That's not to say it wasn't a visitor here... just that it was never photographed. Other news... fin whales have arrived in West Cork inshore waters again -- which means it's Whale Watching season!

Ireland's Wildlife Why is it that Facebook sometimes pics up images and text excerpts to go with links, and other times leaves them out entirely. Bizarre!

Ireland's Wildlife First ever humpback recorded in the Thames found dead. Hoping it's not one of our regular West Cork visitors :-(.

Ireland's Wildlife Long tailed tits in the garden this afternoon. Wonderful little birds. Once heard them described as "golf-balls on sticks" -- which is surprisingly accurate!

Ireland's Wildlife Goldcrest and Chiff-chaff fighting a pitched battle in the Rowan tree this morning... guess it's the opposite of "Clash of the Titans"!

Just a note re. cetacean sightings via the IWDG, who would love records of your whale, dolphin and porpoise observations for their sighting's database. This from Padraig Whooley, IWDG sighting's coordinator:
"We ask all recorders to complete
an online sightings form, which will just take up a few minutes of your
time. Y...ou’ll find this form on the
sightings section of our website http://www.iwdg.ie/iscope/sightings/repo rt.asp?id=46
All you need do is
complete as many of the fields as accurately as you can, based on what you
actually saw (as against what you might have liked to have seen).
You might also consider emailing
us any digital images taken of the animals, as jpegs, to padraig.whooley at iwdg.ie (replace at with @ and remove spaces), as this is
often the easiest way of confirming species ID. Once received, we will give you
immediate feedback.
Thanks
again for taking the time to report your sightings, which will help in the
conservation of cetaceans (whales, dolphins & porpoises) in Irish
waters."
