ZIMBABWE: One of the hardest battles we face is trying to educate pe...ople on the fact that monkeys are not pets. There is so much damage done to a monkey when it is kept in the wrong environment, no social structure, no companionship and worst of all restrained and frustrated.

This was Sam whom we rescued from a village, along with another Baboon and 2 duiker. They had all been rescued by the villagers who had no idea who to call or what to do. This lead them to care for them themselves, sadly in very poor living conditions. However the nature of these animals proved they were very well looked after and loved which put us in a very heart sore situation. Their chains were due to ignorance not lack of compassion. After education and a lot of follow up work we have received another rescued monkey from this village that they willingly called us to collect immediately after he was found.

Using chains, dog collars, harnesses and leashes are a common sight in ill practices with primates. No primate should ever have this done to them. If you find a primate in need of help the kindest thing you can do is hand it over to a wildlife sanctuary or facility that specializes in their care. The more time spent with humans means less and less chances of that primate ever being able to return back into the wild.
