UPDATE ON #FreeGeraldReed
On Tuesday, February 25th, we held a prot...est at Daley Plaza outside the Circuit Court of Cook County to demand Chief Judge Evans should immediately release Gerald Reed and impeach Judge Hennelly.
During the protest, Armanda Shackleford, Frank Chapman, and other Chicago Alliance members went up to Chief Judge Evans office and spoke with one of his legal representatives while roughly 40 supporters waited outside his office. While the representative was initially unsupportive and defensive of Hennelly, he did admit that Hennelly should never have been on this case and that he should have recused himself.
We made sure to let him know that Judge Hennelly’s actions were racist and unlawful. We told him that we are not asking for a meeting, we are DEMANDING one with Chief Judge Evans. Our step now is to write him a letter outlining the facts of Gerald’s case in preparation for a meeting with him in the next week. We will highlight every racist and unlawful action that was done to Gerald Reed, starting with the fact that he was tortured by the CPD almost 30 years ago.
