Alright so. I just gonna tell you what happened. I've been down here in East Saint Louis for the last few hours and driving around when I was talking to people at the liquor store and they were very disappointed with when I was down here by myself, it's kinda hard to do but you know it shows you essentially that I'm not a big operation. You know this campaign is not funded by the wealthiest and it's not funded by the biggest Corporation. Just to grassroots campaign and I have a friend of mine Doug Dial who's lives down this way. Great guy, a veteran and he jumped on the campaign a while ago and he's over in in Collinsville Glen Carbon Glenn and so Doug came over and met me down here in the Saint Louis so that I wouldn't be holding the video camera on myself, which is what I was doing so some raw video footage that wasn't. high quality, but you saw me talking to people you saw what they were saying they were talking about how you know that that they're really unhappy with the Saint Louis. He's Saint Louis as I said before is the hometown of Dick Durbin. He grew up here US Senator Dick Durbin I'm running against moving and Dick Durbin He's been 38 years in Congress. 24 in the United States Senate and and Dick he hasn't come back here forever and you look around in Saint Louis do show me these projects that I was showing earlier. I mean they're all these windows are kicked out and this is where we were standing boarded up all over the place. this town. Here's the current signs that put down this town had a population of about 80000 before the projects all through their same story, Everything's boarded. I mean it doesn't look like America It looks. It's really a sad commentary isn't a dog. and so the business is all boarded off everything is vacant move out of here and the people are very unhappy. They're unhappy with obviously the poverty the lack of opportunity through unhappy with the crime. situation in the East Saint Louis as well and It's a really, it's a polite. It's just a terrible area. Let's see this guy wants to talk to us. Maybe just say hi. One you doing? how you doing Sir My name is Mark Kern. I'm running for US Senate. Do you mind if we put you on video? Yeah. What do you so you know you're US. senators are Durbin and Duckworth so Derby grew up here. I know yeah. what do you think we're you voted for him? I do so are you happy with the job He's done for this town with with what's been going on. I think he has done pretty fairly with compared to. Things that were going on before cuz he's been in there for about 24 years in the Senate, you know 30 - eight Congress, but I don't think he's tweeted yet he hasn't he hasn't had enough time to get the Saint Louis turn around. well. No single person here is gonna be able to do that right now. No one single person. No, I get it, but that's gonna take an effort he has put forth and I can't say anything in recent in recent time, but he has put forward efforts in the past right so that's not And a whole that right, but this is the toughest. This is the area. It's got hit the hardest. Let me ask you so I'm my name is Mark Curran. I'm running for US Senate. I was a long time Sheriff of Lake County, Illinois. I haven't seen you or are you ready a Democrat or Republican. I'm a Republican Okay. Would you vote for a Republican? I'm I don't I don't go by any party. Okay. So I'd ask you to consider me. okay. Think about me. Alright. I'll do that. Alright. So as I get some information like I said I said, I had it and your name hasn't come up but thank you. Thank you sir. So talking to the guy, Nice guy, you know I mean. when you I can't do everything I get it but Senator Durbin has been isn't done anything. you know. I mean it's we're not we're gonna ask God and we're not asking them to fix everything Do is more public housing. all the windows kicked out just really a pretty sad play as you look around I drive down here so what's going on but? So you know as a long time. County state federal prosecutor or somebody that was Sheriff of the third largest County in Illinois for 12 years, the longest serving sheriff in Lake County, I served Illinois for Lake County for a long time and we had some rough times You know, North Chicago and Waukegan and Zion and what you have you, but you gotta be out there in the community and doing what you can a US senator. He's he's an opportunity to do a lot in terms of you know bringing funds to a community help bring programs to the community help regenerating it, but this community has just been decimated as we've said this is this is Dick Durbin's whole community 20 - four years in the United States. Senate needs essentially done nothing about it and you look like I said, lost the population went from 80000 when he grew up to 20 -. 7000. One of the most violent communities in America. and you know it's just not good so. there's folks right here what's going on. How's it going? What's up bro? Hey, I'm running for US Senate. name is Mercury. I'm running for US Senate. We're live on Facebook. I wanna say hello. yeah. right now. we're we're all do the cameras. Okay. Alright, but hey, keep me in mind. Alright you got your man Okay. Thanks guys. There. So you know when I was a sheriff of you know, I'd go through all the communities all the time and and what he gave you and I think that we have a responsibility as people of faith and I know you're a person of faith that you know they say that the that The rich the poor is something that's going on in America, one percent of America have more wealth than 90 plus percent. The rich need the port to get them to have a safe. We believe that so we all have a responsibility to each other. We all are supposed to live in you know in community with each other, We're supposed to be connected to each other. And we're supposed to help out for each other as much as we can. There's a Pulls out of the cold. Another one. Area look around. It's not nothing going on right now in the industry right. Yeah, I mean. this community It's a great community with great people, but they are currently the most vulnerable among us and they've been. The vast majority have had a really rough time and it's been sad to see. Yeah sure the Street it's just it's a desert. You know in Oasis. just everything you see burned down buildings stuff and they never replaced. Check this out. Do I mean how long do you think that's been like that? it's probably been that could have been years like that. Yeah. I'm pretty sad look at this right next to it. Huh and what the heck I don't know. So, you know the problem that we're up against is we're running as Republicans. Down here probably don't think Republicans care about them but you know your personal all I cared about everybody right. Absolutely. We have a lot of love for the people that live here and you Saint Louis too. right. Don't there are there are brothers and sisters. There's some guys hanging out on the streets. We'll talk to them. We wanted to head over to Walmart, Well all direct me wherever you wanna go. Here's some directions. turn right here Alright directions right there. Alright. So, Lucky's Barbershop doesn't look like it's open. Driving around these homes were nicely built on it's nice brick, you know. we'll build on that nice very often anymore, but. And that's what happens. when the time becomes Hi folks how y'all doing There's people I'm running for US Senate. Can you see all these up here? And turn the right not here but the next Street okay. so I so hanging out at the liquor store earlier. it started right here. Turn left here. And you know it's a lot of cars everyone's happy to talk to me. and go down to the end and turn left. Yeah. Like I said a lot of people interested, it's this. I mean, check this out. I mean this is look like America. That's how some people live. Yeah and they deserve better. Yeah. Check this out over here. It's I mean. How was it you know? how does it stand up? You know it barely stands a storm will knock it over. Yeah. there's a lot of people skills that can repair that. Yeah, you see a lot of people who should be employed at this one right here. Yeah. I mean how many you know buildings like this we have in Surrey. Why don't they knocked down? Right right here right here. I mean if they're vacant, you know why are they still alive right? the property of a lot of churches in the area? Yup. and that's that is a tremendous blessing to the people here. Doug you are in the military, you've been all over the world. the Navy I was in the Navy, The Navy I wish I was all over the world, but I got sent to Great lakes where you go after that and that was it I I wrapped up my career there. I mean all in Lake County, Illinois Yup. When you wake up in training. I worked in the dental office up there at the now decommissioned Glenview Naval Air Station right and also then I transferred up North to Great Lakes training Center so I was in the Navy and used to play The new golf course, Oh Glenn, a golf course was great. Yeah, it was truly so. moving out to the out of town Metro East Industries where do we got how much? There we go. We're gonna take a break. A far out we're going over the bridge. And we're still in the Saint Louis we're actually going to jump briefly on 255 right here. So we're getting out of it. The neighborhood so Nope, we're going to where people from the neighborhood shop. Are we getting that 15 once it's straight go straight there you go. And it doesn't look like anybody's staying in there you. That's empty. There's so much potential here. Yeah. A bunch of churches in town, you know, I don't know how they. I guess if they're not doing it. Nice to see but yeah, it's it's it's surrounded by really nice cities isn't it 350. You get that 255. Yeah. Yeah, go ahead and take two cups of five South down to the next exit. We're doing yet it's a battle, you know that's you know you have twice as many Democrats as Republicans and. You know the party is is is really struggle. I think it's a it's a party and. The Senate is is worried because they have a number of races that are in trouble. So it's you gotta you gotta stay with a positive attitude. You gotta fight you know the good fight every day you can't get negative and my race really matters for a lot of reasons to not just the needs to go, but I was a trial lawyer for a long time and what people need to understand is that Donald Trump lost by 18 points four years ago and people vote. Democrat for President and then they vote Democrat for US Senate. There's a good chance to just keep going right down the ballot and I you know it's the A trial lawyers talk about like I said I've long background as a trial lawyer to get people say yes, and then you get them to the questions for you know that they get it or what have you and you want them to say yes, like they have it's hard for their brain. All of a sudden you know, make that change. so you know yes. so if it's a Democrat Democrat now I'm gonna switch back to Republican if that doesn't work so my race is a really big here. My race is a really. For a lot of reasons, Doug and you know most of those. that Down ballot races will also be affected. I'm out there promoting the President, too. I I really think that you know President Trump has done a good job and he hasn't gotten a fair shake going right here. Turn left left. Thank you he has not gotten a fair shake and I think that you know there's there's times that maybe he could do a little bit better job in terms of selling his position if you will, but you know that's not his. I mean his strength was in management and was in in getting things done. you know I I was a trial lawyer and that's what we do is we we sell a position and we recognize that we need We unanimous verdict so we can't alienate anybody. you know he comes from a different world so Overall, when you look at what he's done with the Corona virus faced with the you know the the the economic downturn as a result faced with all that's happened in terms of China, you know being the bad actor that they are not in Syria. It's really been a tough three and a half years isn't it absolutely. and so let the listeners know that if they want they can type in questions. You know, yeah, you have any questions so we are live with. US Senate candidate Mark Herrin. and we're down in the Saint Louis area. and we're looking for questions if you have a question, go ahead and post it and we'll respond accordingly. This is like way too clean. I think for where you took me, corn fields and stuff this is outside of I'm trying to juggle but this was the map. Yeah, I know I get it was just the closest grocery store though for you, Saint Louis, they didn't have any in the they have a little Mark. Where they have really bad food and they're they're often referred to as food deserts because there's they have to go outside of their area quite a ways to get a good food. good produce good good fresh meat etcetera right. There's some people right here you know we just pull over for a second if you want to yeah. yeah. Hello ma' am how y'all doing Hello So Hey, sir. Hello sir. how you doing how you doing We're conducting brief interviews here with a US Senate candidate. Oh you need to go in there and tell them there. Alright we'll go in. what are did you get any to anybody that would vote for a Republican in there? Oh there's a whole lot. Alright I'm coming in. Alright, What do you think it put it right here? Yeah and follow up with another live look at this place right now. Oh goodness Yeah. that's right. so we'll just keep it going live for a minute just keep it going. Okay. I'm gonna bring the cardboard. No, no no, how are you doing? Recognized the US Senator. You know this guy look at that place goodness that needs some work. I'm sorry his name is Dick Durbin, I don't know if you don't know him. Where you live, I just down the road when you see this. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So when you're US senator for the last. 24. Do you mind if I put you on camera? I couldn't cuz I haven't lived here. How long have you lived here? Do you mind if I put you on camera? sir No. okay Don't okay. I'll put him on me. Okay. Are you doing here you go USA gets this guy. You know this guy. Yeah I do what would you say. So, yeah, he he's been there for a long time too. isn't he 24 years? What has he done by Y'all? Not a goddamn? Yeah, everybody's down here. but Yeah. Yeah. I know who he is. Yeah a lot of people work for the brewery. I do Yeah, Yeah, I know who he is so let me tell you the area. I mean it's you know populations drop by from $80000 to 27000 and, you know, obviously the crime and the poverty and the like and you know the drugs and everything else What's going on? I think I people like him and our governor, they don't care what happens to us right, They're making money. That's all they care right right right? so this guy he went to Congress, He became a millionaire. his and it's pretty sick, isn't it? Yeah so totally lost touch with everybody else right. I live in Saint Louis also. I love more. Okay. Call me my mom got. As soon as I see you walking up with my wife, yeah really is. we got some There'll be interested in. yeah, I think most people don't like him. US senators one of the 20 US. from Saint Louis. I'm not against this guy This guy done anything for this area. I mean, have you that's it. Alright, give me a chance I will. There you go. so let me ask you you all think we need a change. I'm from Missouri. Alright. Alright I'm ready everybody. Thank you No. Thank you. Thank you have a great day you too. We're going down to the grocery store is it really the you know? that's what I'm talking about down the road. Grocery stores. Yeah, is that one dog Schnucks Yup. Yeah. So that's about the only grocery the grocery store in the area that the there's all of these, which is down the road about that's it. That's all you got is it's a little stores that sell chips and liquor right. Oh, you're looking. Oh, you know I'm talking about down like on State Street in that area and I don't I don't know about down there. Yeah. I'll go down. Don't have no no. that is able to go in that area. Yeah, that's not. it's not a good neighborhood to be in right. alright folks we'll catch you thanks for talking to us. Thank you. You should probably go back in that neighborhood is talking about. What he said I looked up snatch. It's right down the road. Alright we'll go to let's see if you're losing, you're losing your stuff. Oh, thanks you're still videoing. Yup. It's still live. Yeah good. Right Oh, look at the ones. I'll give you this one. It's been since I've been coming to this bar has anybody been there Nope. Thanks guys. Alright. I wish I had you earlier when I was down here because some great interviews with you know black people that we're talking to me and they were they were Super kind and just really upset with what you know this town is deteriorated to I'm sitting there trying to do it My aunt and I hope keep clicking it on and off and what he had so it's tough. It's tough to do this. I'm happy to be here We really need you all of us need you. Thank you. you're awesome. And I really appreciate it. Doug came all the way up. I had a fund-raiser in Milwaukee. I mean excuse me that Milwaukee Mundelein, which is about five and a half hours and you drove all the way up in one day just to stop in and I had to meet mister Mark Curran, who was challenging our current US senator who I'm not happy with okay, so I don't see any homes like this on the other side of the Saint Louis, where we just came from. That's why I said we're getting in the area that you know, I'm less worried about as far as just Neglect. because the bulk in Saint Louis does not look like that. that is the those homes on the side of the road or stop sign up ahead. turn off. but they look nice and. What's the stop sign? No, I appreciate it. Be kind It's that time of day where the yeah so bright you can't see that stuff too well. Okay, So you're thinking that there'll be shoppers from East Saint Louis it'll be hanging out down in here. Oh, yeah everyone needs. Yeah, although because it's right or wrong here. yeah. I don't look like that better. I get everyone needs to eat, but I mean when you gotta come this far to get your groceries. That's pretty tough. On the side of the road, it's good thing to get tires. huh. Yup, You got awesome tires. Okay. Next stop Sign Turn right. Doug What you know. What do you know about Dick Durbin? I know he's been there way too long. and I'm a strong proponent of of term limits. How you doing. Yeah, What do you think term limits are so important because this is a service position. It's not a career position right people are there to serve and if public servant has done their job and served properly they will have earned reelection right right just because they hold the position doesn't mean that they've earned reelection right. So where am I going now you're keeping on this road. We're almost there. Yeah. So we. You know my groceries move out of the area that areas like this is you know they're high crime and you know they just don't wanna take the risk so the people that live in these neighborhoods suffer and it's one of the things that people like Dick Durbin when they talk about you know, defunding the police and you know getting rid of the police it one of the realities is that if the police or what? allow a business to to work in in a in a tougher neighborhood if the business doesn't feel safe and it feels like the criminals run the neighborhood and they're just gonna steal. and they're gonna destroy their business and their gonna shoot-up their clerks and what have you then they're not gonna be there. There's there's no way so they have no incentive and we've seen this in Lake County where I'm from North Chicago hasn't had a grocery store in 30 years. I mean what the heck is going on here, Rockingham but you know he's the mayor of North Chicago. I mean, but you know you keep electing the same people. That's what happens right in here. So this does not look like you know anything like the areas of the East Saint Louis that we were at earlier a little later, they're they're quite a few diverse areas throughout all of the Saint Louis right, and it's a rather large area and spread out quite a bit and there's all these sub communities and some are stronger. Canadians. Some are not as strong right and but it's all about the leadership. It's a good leadership or is it not good leadership and for the most. There's not good leadership down here so when I was when I was growing up, you know you Saint Louis was a powerhouse and a lot of sports couldn't basketball. good football. you Saint Louis High School and so Jackie joins me Saint Louis Yup. Yup. Yeah. So we have a we've got a question about do you have any word on a potential debate with Durham? I'm asking for baits and you know he won't give them money. He's gotta be records if you want. I'm you know who this is your US Senator. Durbin. US don't live in Oh Missouri. Yes, sir. Okay. How about you ladies? Do you all live in Illinois? You no. Living in Illinois, Huh So I'm running for US Senate against this guy. Dick Durban. My name is Mark Kern. Let me ask you what time you're from. Right here so what do you think about the representation for this town over the years? has it been good or bad? He's Saint Louis. There's nothing right They haven't done anything. good. No you all think you need a change. Yeah. Of course you think 30 - eight years in Congress is too much. you know this guy No Dick Durbin. I don't know. do you think he grew up here and give me I'll give you a flyer. Here ma' am I'm give me a flyer. Thank you. thank US this guy is on your ballot for the election. I'm running against this guy. You know this guy. so I'm running for US Senate against this guy. Yeah. it's appreciate your support. Dick Durbin I'm a Republican. Republican good. we're looking at it's like you know. What he had to get out of it in a minute. If you wanna be respectful, the security guy has this will definitely be. you know it's nice and clean, but it's not in the area where everybody lives, but it's population concentration is over there and obviously you know that's where the housing is and everything else. so the House is way up that store is way out on the outskirts and if all related to crime so pretty cool this thread from around here pretty tragic. If you live here huh CS community Yeah. Hi. hi how y'all doing what's going on? so my name is Mark Kern. I'm running for US Senate. This is to introduce myself to people. I'm running to get this guy you've ever seen this guy, but we can't be doing that The store doesn't like it okay, I'll leave but thank you all for what you do. Thank you for for the work that jobs is awesome job you're in your pension. Don't let anybody take it away from you. I won't as a US Senator I'll protect it. Thank you for what you do sir. Thank you. Thank you. I say Mark I'm really impressed with your hustle hustle hustle. You're always everywhere. Yeah. you never stop you just keep going you're like a machine. so what you don't need nothing in the tank. You know what I mean. it's one of those it's. It's it's tough, you know, I'm not I don't come from money. you know I don't have any. I don't have family money. You know a lot of money or anything like that. I've spent most of my career in government working as a County state federal prosecutor and then the longest serving Sheriff of Lake County, Illinois. So I'm not rich. I don't run in circles of the rich so you know I'm fighting for the Middle class to I'm fighting for the You know the downtrodden if you will people that live here and not just the people who live here that you know the Middle class in America. One percent of America has wealth more wealth than 90 percent of the top. one percent is more wealth in the bottom 90 percent. That's tough. You know, it's not. it's not a recipe that's go down this way this. It's not you know, ultimately that they're gonna overthrow the the the the wealthy and see if this place is no don't keep going. We'll see if this place is open. Hollywood No the laundromat people doing their laundry. Yeah. Dollar general what do you see the laundromat people doing their laundry? while they're waiting? We can talk to him. Alright. So you know the the. This is the man right here. Yeah, let's take a look at anybody's in there. I saw there are people there. Alright. so the reality is that I'm not gonna be beholden to the wealthiest corporations and I believe strongly capitalism, but we need to take care of the Middle class in America. We bring this around with us everywhere because a lot of people don't know who their US senator is they don't know who this guy is and we wanna let them know how you doing. you know this guy right here. So this guy is your US. Senator I'm his name is Dick Durbin. Do you mind if I put you on camera? Sir is that right? That's awesome. Okay. you'd like the Cowboys. Yeah. So it's got the future or you need another. So anyways, my name is Mark Turner. I'm running for US Senate. okay. It'd be nice to have a lot more industry right a lot more jobs with that. yes, a lot more programs. that yeah how about do you feel as though the crime is still a problem. From the about all the what's with all the buildings that are you know and fires and the left standing for decades after and what have you? I mean what's going on with Dan? Why don't they tear those down and clean up the labs If you feel you just totally neglect you. To government around here. I don't wanna. you're a charitable guy. you're trying to be kind about it pretty much. Yeah. I could've been pretty far to me. The do for a living. oh custodian. That's thank you for what you do. It's very important. God bless you. Social distance and we're outside right Right. Wanna be respectful to people who want to? This guy, but hey, thank you for what you do. God bless you. Thank you go Cowboys The Cowboys. Alright. You have a good one too. Thank you. I'm Ezekiel have a good year. no matter what. Oh. yeah. Oh. yeah how you doing. So I'm running for US Senate. You know this guy right here. Yeah, he is he done anything for your community. What County you from first of all. Saint Clair County you Saint Louis you feel as if you. the government is neglected, The Saint Louis. They could do better right. Right right? do they just you know this guy was even from this area? Yeah US senator and he grew up here. I mean if you grew up in a town and then you made it big, you made it to the US Senate when you wanna like take care of the people that you grew up with you know the school teachers make sure that their schools will come off put on camera is that excuse me. So if I put you on camera, no okay you're on camera. Okay Nice truck though I like that truck how about how about you? Yeah. you do fantastic Ballpark Village is one of the most awesome places over there in Saint Louis right next to the Stadium. Oh. yeah. yeah, right now with going home. Yeah. everything is nice. Yeah. alright. Alright. Alright we'll take care guys have a good night. Okay. I'll be right next. US Senator from Illinois. so I'm running against him so I appreciate your support. Thank you you too. Everything going, Okay. What do you think about the representation down here? Is it a good dad or no. It could be better. 38 years in Congress is too much. Probably right thank you beautiful smile thank you so your representation in DC is Saint Louis area We good. You're from Missouri. You know a lot of people around here right. Yeah. Okay. You all have a good night. Alright. Well tell tell your friends live around here to consider this guy he'll be on the ballot in November. That's right. It's Ryan against Tur help things get better so go ahead and give that to him. Thank you. Have a blessed day ma'. Okay, sun's going down, We're gonna wrap it up okay. any final words just let me hey. You know. for 38 years, obviously neglected this year. It's not been it's been disappointment as a US senator for Illinois, but in particular for a place that he grew up in Saint Louis tragic that we grow up in a place and then you can just you know lose any concern, but what happens to that town so you can see it and I promise you know this area is the rest of if I'm elected US Senate to the US Senate that things will be given. Hey, ma' am Hi how you doing? do you have any questions for your US? Senator right here on this board. I thought that was yeah. Do you know Dick Durbin? No no. but it's look like that's Dick Durbin right there. No. no no. I'm running against that guy. Oh okay. Here's this Now now Dick Durbin, he's been on your ballot for as long as you've been voting, you vote every time right, okay, so he's been on your ballot every time he's up for reelection and he's been on the ballot for over 30 years and it's time for him to enjoy his retirement. Don't you think you get Durbin? This is Mark Herr are. I'm not a that's why I'm voting for you. I'm sorry you don't know the Republicans and I just go down. Oh, so let me ask you something so I was a Democrat myself. What what can you tell me? why I have no idea I do I said, Get out and get your. You made it. Go. So, What issues are important? Do you think? So let me tell you something I agree with a hundred percent. Doing all that right? so let me do me a favor just look at me. I was a Democrat myself and I create jobs and I I agree. too much violence here so Number two and this guy's a multi-millionaire now he's done nothing, but as far as taking care of jobs in the area that we grew up in. So if you think that you might have a better chance for the Republican this time I don't know I mean I get to go for. I've never seen them before and it's you. this I. Even if you go straight down the ballot Democrats have to be you go. Hey, wait a minute wait a minute because guess what this is for the whole state of Illinois and at the top of the ticket will be for the President. Whoever you're going to vote for whoever you're going to vote for whoever you vote for whoever you're going to vote for but right below. that is the race for US Senate. I take you inside for you.
