President Donald Trump has officially been impeached on two articles... – Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress, making him the third president in U.S. history to be impeached. On December 18, 2019 at 8:34 p.m. EST, the House of Representatives Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, read the final votes pertaining to HS RES 755 and the first article of impeachment against Donald Trump: “230 yeas and 197 nays, Article I is adopted.” A few minutes later, the House also voted 229 yeas and 197 nays in a vote to impeach Trump for Article II: Obstruction of Congress. Both votes were made along party lines with only two Democrats voting against impeaching Trump for Article I and three Democrats voting against impeaching Trump for Article II. One Democrat, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, voted present for both votes.
Speaker Pelosi also honored the late Rep. Elijah Cummings, calling him “our North Star.” She also quoted him saying, “When the history books write about this tumultuous era, I want them to show that I was among those in the House of Representatives who stood up to lawlessness and tyranny. When we’re dancing with the angels, the question will be, ‘What did you do to make sure we kept our democracy?”
The next steps will come in the coming weeks when, and with what methods, Pelosi and her colleagues send the articles of impeachment to the Senate, who will then begin their impeachment trial. Mehr anzeigen
