As a member of the RSL myself, I have a great respect for the work t...hey do supporting and advocating for current and former serving members of the Australian Defence Force. I’ve found that RSLWA has long been very inclusive and welcoming.
But I was disappointed this morning to see the decision banning Welcome to Country ceremonies and flying the Aboriginal flag at Anzac and Remembrance Day services.
Anzac Day and Remembrance Day are occasions to demonstrate national unity, and recognising the traditional custodians of the land is a part of that.
It is also worth remembering that many first Australians have made the ultimate sacrifice for this country, and ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies should be environments where everyone feels welcome.
I hope RSL WA reconsiders this decision.
