Proud to support critical legislation today to halt the Postmaster General’s operational changes in their tracks, reverse those recently implemented, and provide critical funding to protect the USPS – and our democracy. The Senate should pass this bill without delay. #DontMessWithUSPS

Hey, folks Derek Gilmer here from our nation's capital. I just voted in support of the delivering for America Act legislation that I cosponsored to prohibit the US Postal Service from making some changes that would impede the service that we all rely upon. um let me give you the details on what's going on here and why it matters and let me say up front. During this pandemic, our postal service employees and mail carriers have stepped up in such a big way They have gone above and beyond their traditional duties to continue serving. Folks throughout our communities, even in the midst of a pandemic, you know they're quite a critical role uh on the front-lines, ensuring the people around our region continue to receive the packages and letters that we all need uh medication food supplies ballots you name it now. unfortunately, uh recent changes by the postmaster General Have' really undermined these workers and the service that we all rely on just in the last week. I've I've spoken with the small business owner in Jefferson County and another one in Mason County. Businesses have already experienced delays. Uh I spoke with seniors who depend on the Postal Service for their prescriptions and who are really anxious that the medications that they need will get caught up in this mess and I've spoken to a worker in the county elections Office who recognizes that our vote by mail system depends on a reliable Postal service. So uh these changes by the postmaster general really threaten not only our democracy and the ability to conduct a free and fair election, but the lives and the livelihoods of folks in communities all across our region. I rely on the Postal Service and its ability to do it. So that's why I'm proud to vote in favor of this bill, which will um in a nutshell halt the postmaster General's operational changes in their tracks and unwind some of the damage already done. Uh the bill also includes funding uh funding that was requested by the bipartisan Board of Governors of the Postal Service to address the financial crisis that that stemmed from this pandemic and the economic downturn. I'm really pleased that the House passed this bill and I'm hopeful that the Senate. As well, stay tuned.
