Wizwars (aka Kevyn Gnartinez) is a Southern California based artist who uses Nintendo Game Boys to mix melody with chaos and create high energy chiptune anthems. Since 2006, Wizwars has played 60+ shows across the US, released several demo EPs, helped establish a chiptune festival in DTLA as a co-founder of 8bitLA, and in 2013 released their first album, ウィズウォーズの伝説.
Catch them at @codeword_sf tonight for #FreqFestSF2!...
VISMANCIENNE has been bridging the gap between analog and digital art since 2014. They wield an arsenal of obsolete, circuit-bent hardware to curate a cerebral visual experience through glitch media and found art....
Los Angeles-based chip musician Viami wields a couple of Game Boys running LSDJ and is inspirted by the likes of IAYD, Wizwars, Perturbator, JiffyPop23, Stagediver and more. Check his set out at #FreqFestSF2 7/22 at Codeword and prepare to thrash and dance like never before.
Joining us for their first Freq performance is Unicorn Dream Attack!
Stefen Keen aka Unicorn Dream Attack has been making various forms of electronic music since 1997. His sound was established while working in and out of studios in Detroit where he dabbled in production for hiphop, triphop, and electro. In the early 2000s (after moving to the Twin Cities area) he became obsessed with analogue synths, drum machines, and hardware samplers. Around the year 2004 he began focusin...g on his beloved sound set of home computers and various game systems. Using these instruments UDA layers harmonies and electronic toy sounds into colorful melodies.
Returning for #FreqFestSF2 at Codeword (7/21) is Trash80, the musical project of Los Angeles based digital artist Timothy Lamb. This obsolete technologist utilizes custom built software and hardware inspired by machines of the past in the creation of the heavily melodic but eminently danceable Trash80 sound. A strong believer in open source movement, you can find his body of work published under Creative Commons license and freely available online.
Originally from San Francisco, now representing Calgary, Canada, Together We Are Robots weaves haunting soundscapes with a blend of manic rock and catchy chiptune melodies. Their first EP, 'Ghost Stories' was released on monobomb records in 2015.
Mike Ackman is accompanied on stage by crashfaster, Extent of the Jam, Striplicker, Delorean Overdrive...'s Devin Nixon* on drums, and Kevyn Martinez (FKA Wizwars, The Kevyn Gnartinez Band) on bass guitar. Embrace fragile mortality, ...and get spooky.
*Devin is recovering from shoulder surgery, so he is unable to perform for this festival. Rest up, dude!
