Great Job Growing the Sport!
Sunday was our Cooley Elementary 5th Grade Disc Golf Club Tournament. The kids had a blast from start to finish! Thanks to #A3 and #DetroitDiscCompany the kids ...got two fresh flyers in their players' pack right off the bat! The format for the tournament was one round of 12 holes at Baycourt with a CTP on every hole plus two longest putts. Because of our great volunteers, Justin Cova, Jay Serratos, Richard D. Nixon, and Jessica from the Board of A3, we were able to send a disc golfer out with every card to help guide the players during their round.
I had three little girls on my card, one who even wants to do a sanctioned tournament this year! I loved walking with them and giving them hints on how to putt and throw better. I helped one girl's putt and she made a 25 footer on the very next hole! Then the other girl made a 35 footer to birdie the hole after that! My last girl won two CTPs, she was the only girl to beat the boys for a CTP!
After the round, we did a Ring of Fire putting contest. The kids did great at this and walked away with a stack of at least 5 discs each, at least!
Next was the Ace Pool Throw Off which thanks to our friends who donated, the kids got to throw off for cash! $86 dollars to be exact!
I want to say thank you to everyone who helped in any way! We had over 175 discs donated! What's great about that is that not only do the kids have plenty of discs to try out in order to find the right one for them but they won enough to get their whole family involved!!! One boy walked away with 22 discs!!!
I really hope these kids keep throwing and to keep the momentum going, we will be starting a youth league over the summer for our 5th graders and others. Ash J. Proulx-ski and I will also be sponsoring two of the kids into a sanctioned tournament this year!
It was amazing to watch the next generation of disc golfers begin their journey. I can't wait to do this all again!
