Two public surveys are now online for Albertans to share their thoughts and provide feedback as the province updates regulations for long-term care facilities and home care services.

Residents, families, caregivers, and members of the public can share their thoughts on legislation related to access to nursing homes, home support services (e.g., light housekeeping, laundry), meal requirements, meeting the needs of caregivers and more.

The surveys, which can be found at health....alberta.ca are part of the review of the Nursing Homes Operation Regulation and Nursing Homes General Regulation (under the Nursing Homes Act), and the Co-ordinated Home Care Program Regulation (under the Public Health Act).

Key stakeholders, including home care providers, long-term care facility operators and advocacy groups are also taking part in sessions across the province to provide their advice and input.

The nursing home regulations under review were drafted in 1985 and since then, much has changed in best meeting the needs of residents. Updating the regulations, which expire in 2017, will allow the province to help ensure continuing care legislation meets the needs of clients and their families today.

The public survey will be available online until midnight on July 31.

The Alberta Disabilities Forum has launched an AISH Benefit survey questionnaire on Survey Monkey. The purpose of the survey is to establish whether or not the current AISH benefit, including modified AISH need to be indexed to the yearly cost of living and/or are adequate to meet your needs. We recognize that this survey relates to a provincial subject but also realize that it impacts citizens of Edmonton

We would encourage individuals who are caregivers in the capacity o...f trustee, guardian or with power of attorney for a person with a disability and/or family member to please complete the survey on that person’s behalf.

The survey is available from June 20, 2016 to July 14, 2016.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact them at 780-488-9088 or by email: adf@accd.net

Congratulations to AAC member Quinn on being featured on Humans Of Edmonton Experience and thank you for being part of the soundtrack to our streets when you're not making the city of Edmonton a better place for those with disabilities!

Humans Of Edmonton Experience

The soundtrack to our streets are filled with police sirens, hissing bus brakes, honking horns and sometimes if you're in the right place, a saxophone.

"We are... the music people hear when they walk to work, eat lunch or go shopping. People don't realize that this is our job. This is what we choose to do to make a living. But with this economy it's not easy making a living out here. My love for music is equally matched with my love of meeting new people. When somebody stops to listen to me play it makes me so happy. I want to be committed to this 100%. My dad used to tell me to get a "real" job and then play as a hobby. But my love for being a street musician is my passion. One day a lady heard me play 'Moon River' and it reminded her of her late husband. Now when she passes I play it for her. That's one of the reasons I'm a street musician."

If you pass a street musician stop for a minute to appreciate their talent and support. They provide the soundtrack as you walk to work. (Photography by Jerry Cordeiro and music by Quinn).
