Medicare benefits will not change with new cards. Not all beneficiaries will receive the new cards at the same time. Medicare has until December 2019 to deliver the new cards, with mailing starting in May 2018 to Mid-Atlantic states.

A survey of 2,008 adults found that 62 percent of boomers identified money as their top relationship stressor, outranking communication (21 percent), children (7 percent), in-laws (5 percent) and work (5 percent). Fifty-eight percent think they should talk with their partners when spending money.

The new Medicare card doesn’t include your social Security number. Instead, it will have a randomly assigned Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) made up of 11 letters and numbers. You should still guard your MBI just as you did your previous Medicare number, Social Security number and other personal identifiers.
