January 31 is the deadline for submissions for the 2018 volume of the Journal of Academic Freedom. We're looking for original, scholarly articles exploring current mobilizations of the term free speech and their connections to existing practices and concepts of constitutionally protected speech and academic freedom. We will consider any essay on the topic of academic freedom, but a detailed call for papers with suggested areas of focus is at http://bit.ly/2eC5dPx.
Professor Johnny Williams was suspended from Trinity College in Connecticut last summer following a campaign of targeted harassment that included racist threats and threats to his family. Thanks to the support and work of his colleagues in his AAUP chapter, he was cleared in a formal review, with the president of Trinity writing Williams's "actions and words were protected by academic freedom and did not violate Trinity College policies." Read coverage of the case at onefacultyoneresistance.org/harassment. #FacultyUnderAttack

It's actually all sorts of views and, in many cases, extramural speech. Many faculty are under fire for expressing and exploring ideas on social media. #facultyunderattack
When a faculty member was targeted for the class he offered, the president of Florida Gulf Coast University did the right thing. Here's the story (http://newspr.es/2E5cSyl) and the FGCU President Mike Martin's response (http://bit.ly/2GeXb8E) #FacultyUnderAttack
