On October 16, 1965, the Vaughan Memorial Library officially opened. Harold Stearns Vaughan, a surgeon, professor, and Hants County native, generously donated funding for the building in memory of his son, Harold Campbell Vaughan. In his address at the opening ceremony, Vaughan described the new library as “a centre to further stimulate education and the desire for learning among the students of this campus.” #acadialibrary #acadiau #acadiaarchives

On October 15, 1965, Wheelock Dining Hall officially opened. The building is named in honour of Dr. Frank E. Wheelock ‘05. Dr. Wheelock came to Acadia in 1917 as Dean of the School of Engineering and professor (and later department head) of physics. Wheelock served as Provost and Registrar until his death in 1941. #acadiau #acadiaarchives

The Bulmer Race is happening today! In the Summer of 1912, James H. Bulmer (Horton Academy class of 1892) visited his alma mater and proposed the idea of an annual 8-mile relay race. 104 years later, the race continues as an annual Acadia tradition.
