To...ok the plunge in March of this year and visited Active 8 to see if their treatment would help.
Took about 4 visits, but the results were amazing and for the first time in years, I didn't dread getting out of bed in a morning.
Symptoms started to niggle again recently so have visited again to get on top of it before it became too problemati
As an aside, Ange has also sorted out my creaky shoulder.
Benefits? My fastest mile prior = 6:43. 2 weeks later I clocked a 5:58. And I took a second off my park run time, which now stands at 21:27.
My breathing has improved, I'm now conscious of how to get the most oxygen around my body.
I am way more respectful
Time to try something new?

As we come to the end of already gruelling winter training plans, marathon preparations and the transition from winter miles to the demands of the track and field season, there is always the temptation to fit extra miles into these final stages, add an extra repetition to a training session or squeeze an unscheduled run in where otherwise it may have been a rest day.
We regularly see injuries [and hear the coughs and sneezes] caused by over-reaching or borrowing of sessions ...belonging to another athlete in a last ditch attempt to exceed goals and expectations.
Our resident coach believes strongly in allowing athletes the scope to improve but also feels its important for those athletes he works with to understand that more or harder does not necessarily mean you will improve more or faster.
In fact, in a carefully managed programme, your coach is probably already taking you as close to the edge of healthy, intelligent training without risking injury as possible. Adding in those extra miles that they don't know about could be what leads to injury or illness rather than the performance that you have worked so tirelessly for, for months.
Total Sports Performance coached athletes were out in force this weekend with a total of seven personal bests achieved. Richard Bruce bagging a duo of medals as he romped home over the 800m to cement his current second place ranking in the UK and be crowned both South of England Champion and Eastern Masters Champ.
Reigning British Masters 800m Indoor and 800m/1500m outdoor champion, Aaron Brown took to the track for only the second time in 2018 to rank 2nd in the UK over th...e 600m as he prepares, along with Richard for the upcoming British Indoor Championships and European Indoors in Madrid in March.
Such spectacular early indoor season form has us all excited.

Gluteus Maximus was not the Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius but - as the largest muscle in your body - if it were to be a Hollywood Gladitorial hero, it probably would have kicked butt in the Colosseum in Rome.
Fast forward 2000 years and in today's modern sedentary era, where work and travel might mean that a great deal of our time is spent stationary and possibly even in a seated position... for long periods of the day, the muscles that we sit on think it's okay to go to sleep.
Glute Max is a brute [okay, that's where the Gladiator puns stop right now!] and because of its immense strength it makes life relatively easy for its muscle group buddies - Gluteus Medius and Minimus. The body is an efficient, intelligent machine and turns off what it doesn't need and like-wise it will automatically compensate for inefficiencies elsewhere along the anatomy train leading to compensatory movements - this also happens if you are carrying an injury or if a muscle is impinged. This can lead to deferred pain and an overuse injury far from the muscle groups that are causing them.
In simple terms, lazy Gluteus Medius and Minimus, can result in Iliotibial Band Syndrome, tight hamstrings, patella femoral [knee] problems, even last week's subject of my strength article: Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome more commonly known as shin splints. Compensation in your running style, which can also be caused by a tight or impinged Piriformis, in severe cases can lead to every runner's nightmare: Plantar Fasciopathy.
Let's face it - we all want to avoid any of the above overuse injuries and while injury-proofing yourself, why not enjoy some performance enhancing improvements to a muscle group that is one of the greatest force producers in your lower limb?
Key points to remember are that in instances where you have reduced activation in your gluteal muscles, putting Gluteus Maximus under even more immediate load risks hurrying you along that pathway to injury.
Here's the science bit:
Activate: Wake up Gluteus Medius and Gluteus Minimus with simple techniques.
Create a neural connection: Teach the neural pathways what is required of those muscles by repetitive activation and recruitment over a period of 2-3 weeks before beginning to load them.
Condition: Once Muscle Memory has been achieved you can begin to load all the muscles for performance with a progressive program of sport specific exercises.

Last night the first of our 2018 Sofa to 60 runners successfully graduated from her programme.
Many can’t believe that the effort to run 60 minutes not stop will be no more than the effort required to run 60 seconds at the beginning of the programme but Mrs X emerged from her 60 minute run full of energy and bubbling with excitement at her incredible achievement - ready to join a vibrant, friendly group who have continually improved throughout their training with our resident... coach and begin to take on fresh, new, exciting challenges throughout this year and beyond.

It’s fun, it’s pain free, it’s healthy and we don’t believe in old clichés like ‘No Pain - No Gain!’
We train - we don’t strain. A fitter, fun you is just 16 training sessions away!
Total Sports Performance coached athlete and proud Tipton Harrier, Adam Barnes dropped in tonight for his Vo2 Max and blood lactate profiling.
Both coach and athlete are pretty pleased he did as Adam scored the highest Vo2 Peak we have recorded so far - at 76.1 ml/O2 per kg/minute.
The winter training has added a massive dimension and we’re all excited to see how Adam progresses this upcoming track and field season....
Can you beat Adam’s Vo2 Max?
Ever wonder why you can only string a few weeks of training together without injury or niggles forcing you to stop or take a step down from your training?
Do you always seem to reach a point in your winter training or marathon preparations only to breakdown?
Here’s a little insight into what might be behind these cycles of Boom and Bust....
When Kelvin Giles led Team GB out to the Olympics being held in Beijing in 2008, he took the time to screen the physical literacy (ability to move in a manner that did not lead to injury) of the GB squad.
He discovered that 21st century life had led to a decline in key movement patterns, which were the underlying cause of some of our athletes not being able to transit from successful junior fire brand to a senior who can compete at he highest level on the global stage when these athletes were exposed to the training loads required to take their performance to the next level.
Scottish Athletics, with great success, took this on board and addressed this weakness in the athletes who were taking part from grass roots club level to their very elite. Muir, Sharpe, Butchart, Hawkins, anyone?
Since we opened our doors in 2016 we have offered this same screening to local athletes of all levels from juniors, to elites, to those still competing in their seventies - to great effect. With many reporting age group bests and injury free running where this had simply not been possible before.
Our bio mechanical assessments take between 90 minutes and 2 hours and cost just £49 providing you with both a full report of your mechanics and a programme of corrective strength and conditioning. In almost all cases, we discover that simple pre-session dynamic stretches are not being performed when they would otherwise reduce injury-risk and enhance performance.
We thought you might enjoy a short video demonstrating some examples of key drills and dynamic stretches that can be introduced into your warm up routines So here it is.
