Snakebite season is here with a vengeance. We are receiving daily calls about people who are bitten.

A kind reminder to all snake keepers and snake removers to be extra careful when working with snakes. Not just is snakebite highly dangerous, often painful, and very inconvenient, it is also an expensive exercise - with a bad bite costing anything between R 100 000 - R1 million to treat.

Even with the right emergency protocols, and rapid hospitalisation, things can go wrong.

...

Just had a call that a snake keeper has been hospitalised with a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake bite. This is not good and could be very expensive to treat.

What a pleasure doing this course with the man who rocks the reptiles, and his expert team of snake ...handlers and instructors. Highly recommended. Johan is a gold mine of information and generous in sharing his profound, expert knowledge. A tour guide, I believe this course should be undertaken by every tour guide so as to ensure the safety of their travellers, and to add to knowledge to share with them. Thank you, Snakebite Institute. See More
I would definitely recommend and encourage people to attend events hosted by ASI.
Very good team.

I did a snake awareness and handling course and learned so much in one day. Snake handling was also very good and I felt at ease and safe the entire time.

My wife Jenni and I were invited to Johan’s introductory venomous snake handling course at Crocworld... Conservation Center near Scottburgh and had an awesome and informative experience. We highly recommend anyone curious or even uneasy about snakes to discover how manageable these beautiful creatures are - you will leave with a huge understating of venomous snakes, scorpions, spiders, and just about anything that is venomous plus what to do and not to do in various circumstances. Learn, feel safe, and confident during hikes, camping, and even at work in the construction world. See More
