Okay. Hello everyone. it's Josie here from Atlanta For Progress executive assistant and we are here to give you guys an update. We're going to be doing these weekly or monthly updates for everyone all of our followers and today we're going to start with a few things with Alex Bodie, who is our currently our campaign and political map. Director and so he's going to be leaving to do his run for office and he'll be explaining a little bit about that we have to win labor on who will be coming into Alan's offer progress as the political director in filling for Alex and we have Bernice Gavin, which will be talking to us a little bit about our senses. That we will be doing now in 2020 so just to start off Alex welcome to our one of our Facebook lives and we just want you to you know, give a little bit of background. what you're gonna be doing next and a little bit of your experience with Atlanta for progress. so go. Thank you. Josh and thank you everyone for being here. I'm Alex Barrio, the political and legislative director of Alliance for Progress I've been. Organizations since September first 2018, and I'm proud to say that it's been an honor to work there and we've done a lot of great work. I started during the 2018 campaign, we were able to turn out about tens of thousands of more Puerto Ricans in the 2018 midterm election, then had voted in 2014. We were able to alleviate Maybelle Cordero to the Orange County Commission by a little over a hundred votes and able to push the limit. And set records or turnout here in Central Florida in 2019, I'm proud to say that we worked with Puerto Ricans who had been displaced after Hurricane Maria moved to Panama City and then ended up in Panama City during Hurricane Michael and it up losing their homes the second time working with them, We were able to organize them to come to Tallahassee to advocate for their values from the beginning. Our mission at all the answer has been to. People their own power only by showing people their power are you able to truly build power for a community and particularly the Puerto Rican and land communities here in Central Florida as political and legislative director this year, we had a number of victories in the Legislature that were unfortunately stopped by the Corona virus situation and a budget meltdown that happened in Tallahassee in the last week of March, the first. One was last summer as you all might recall. Francis Santiago, a veteran living in Kissimmee, was ordered by her HOA to take down her Puerto Rican flag. We made a video about her. We went on the news about her and we took her to Tallahassee to lobby for this issue and we ended up passing an amendment to a bill. HB 620 - three that protects the rights of anybody to hang a flag of any US state and territory, including Under current law, the Florida Florida says that you can only hang a US flag, military flag or the flag of the state of Florida and we expanded that we're proud of that. we passed it in the House unanimously, Republican and Democratic support thanks to Republicans, Sensei A and Michael Rosa working a bipartisan fashion. We were able to get this done. Unfortunately, the bill died in the Senate. It did not get a hearing when the Legislature left early. But also extended session late and ended up going back a week later to vote on the budget but we're proud of that work. There's a lot a lot of public events. We've had town halls meetings with Osceola County Commissioner Peggy Choudhry meetings with Viviana Janer, another Osceola County Commissioner, Orange County Commissioner Emily Mania we had an event with Valve Timing, Congress and County Mayor Sheriff Demi Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, former Sheriff Demings. we've been. The community showing people the power of our community and showing them their voices now on Monday, April twentieth, I will be going on leave from Alliance for progress with the Cfour in order to hopefully strengthen and build the power of Osceola County by running for office myself. I'm running for state representative to represent Osceola County, Florida House District, 40 - Three. The seat is currently held by John Cortez. He is leaving to run for Quarter he's a great person and I'm proud to be stepping into his very big shoes. Hopefully Amazon election. There will be a primary on August 18, and if you're in Osceola County voter, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns that you have after the election. I hope to return to all the answers in a different capacity that we are working on. We've actually been working on it today, but that's for August for now. it's. A great honor to work with all the answers and do all the work that we've done and I'm looking forward to the next chapter of the Organization and my own personal career. that being said, I wanna introduce our new political director Ruben Lebanon. we found Ruben purely by chance by American from heaven he was actually in Arizona, I believe or driving driving cross country maybe was in Ohio, who knows he'll tell you all about it. but he's definitely a find and we are lucky to have him coming in to Alliance for progress as our new political director overseeing our program through the 2020 election and hopefully further so with that, thank you everybody for watching and I handed over to Ruben. thank you so much Alex for that introduction and thank you so much for all the work that you did for all the answers and I'm Super excited to see what you do in the future and how you continue to help our communities improve their lives but like Alex said. My name is Ruben Lebron I'm gonna be the new political director for Allianz, A and I'm ecstatic to be here. I come from the Pete Buddha judge presidential campaign I was working in Nevada and Arizona. and for that I was working in Washington, DC and the Mid Atlantic region in democracy reform campaigns. I was born and raised in Catalina in Puerto Rico and I left there most of my life and then I decided to come to the States were too higher education and you know as a Puerto Rican living in the diaspora, it can be really hard with everything that's been happening in the island, the corruption the natural disasters and for years I. Trying to find ways to contribute to our people to our community to improve the quality of our lives and this is a godsend this opportunity it allows me to work in areas where I have the experience in political and feeling organizing, but it also allows me to give back and especially in such a critical year. We're not only do we have the presidential election at the very top. We have all these down ballot races happening all over the state that are gonna decide things like control the Legislature who gets to redraw the map. The next decade so I'm very excited to be here these are challenging times. We have the Cuban 19 Pender obviously, and we have to figure out how we're gonna organize. we're gonna have authentic conversations and how we're gonna feel authentic relationships during these trying times and I'm glad that I'm with this team so we can figure out how we tackle those challenges and we're gonna tackle those challenges through our digital work. And also through relying on the personal networks, we have through each other, our friends, our families, our neighbors but yeah, thank you so much for having me here today. Thank you for tuning in I'm incredibly excited to be able to join this team and to see what we can all accomplish in 2020 and beyond. Thank you. thank you proven and as people can see our our Alliance family keeps growing right we have Bernice who's done work with the senses and she's now a part of Allianz, A and she will be heading the Alliance The Alliance Census campaign next to Ruben so Bernice if you could tell us a little bit of an update a little bit about this campaign and what can. Our followers be expecting from it and just general information about it. Thank you so much Joshua and thank you so much for everybody tuning in. so hello everyone. My name is Bernice. I'm a digital organizer with Allianz, A, and I'm also a census employee so my task here with Allianz, A is to basically spread the word about the census. we've been messaging people asking them if they have completed the senses we have been just reaching out and we've been asking those that have responded to us saying that they have completed the senses that they could be so kind to help us spread awareness. Because it's really important that we spread awareness and make sure that everybody is accounted for. so what will the 2020 census results be used for so the 2020 census results will be used to help determine the number of seats seats each state has in the House of Representatives. This data is also used to draw congressional and state legislative districts and over the next 10 years, lawmakers business owners and many others will use the 2020 senses to help determine where in all of our communities around the country. Need new schools, new clinics, new roads and more services for families, older adults and children, and the results will also inform how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding are allocated to more than a hundred programs, including Medicaid Ed Start block grants for community mental health services, Snap and many other programs and I'm here to let you guys know that as a census employee, your information is protected. By the US Census, I have been sworn in under a lifetime oath to protect your information and also the census inspired and it by title 13 of the US Coast to keep everyone's information confidential under Title 13, The Census Bureau Cannot release any identifiable information about you your home or your business even to law enforcement agencies, titled 13 ensures that your private information is protected and that your answers cannot be used against you by any government agency or core. Violating Title 13 is a federal crime. It's punishable by prison time and or up to a fine of $250000 and I know that some people are still worried about certain questions on the census questionnaire and let's clear up the year by addressing those concerns the 2020 census does not ask whether you or anyone in your home is a US citizen every single person living in this country counts on the 2020 census, including non citizens. And like I just previously said your answers will not be shared because you are protected under title 13 of the US code. Your answers are only used to create statistics about our country and again if anyone were to share your answers, they are committing a federal crime that is punishable by prison time and already fined up to $250000 and now that we have cleared up a few of those concerning questions. Did you know that the US Census Bureau has a map of self response rates across the US online as of April fourteenth. Florida's self response rate is 40 - seven point four percent, which is one point seven percent lower than the National self-responsibility rate, which is 40 - nine point one percent. so with Allianz we're here and we're planning how can we increase Florida self response rate so right now, if you guys are tuning in and if you haven't responded to the 2020 census, you can respond today online at 2020 Census dot Gov or Eight 443302020 and then if you have responded to the 2020 census, please help us raise awareness. please share facts about the senses on all your social media accounts. Share videos Just let the people know why the census is important and why everybody should respond to the 2020 census and also if you can help your family members or friends who haven't completed the 2020 senses by guiding them in the right direction. Or answering any of their questions that you know that is also helpful if you don't know any specific questions you can go on 2020 Census dot Gov and you can look on there cuz most of the questions that people usually have are answered on the website and we need everyone to step up to the plate so that everyone is accounted for accurately and in the right place and thank you so much for your time. Thank thank you Bernice.
