Remember all here okay I'm gonna say no time over. oh I'm madness and today we're gonna talk about uh the topic. That's very important coming into this upcoming winter and dilemma actions and that is committed to change of our special guest. We have this lovely, ladies from sunrise movement and they're gonna keep you introduce yourself and a little bit about the work that you do with our Organization yeah also With sunrise movement during this election cycle because I think that climate change should be an urgent priority in our political system and I think that's also fuel money has been hugely corrupting on our democracy and inhibit us from being able to meaningfully act on climate change. So that's what I'm working towards this midterm election and yeah and my name is anna and I'm also working with sunrise I'm gonna have a but now living here in orlando to sometimes and sometimes it's a National youth climate action group but we're just opening of our new branch here in orlando that started in June um And we'll be here through the November elections and then beyond and ice and water roles like being Organization, yeah. So we're, both fellow so we work full time and then later with sunrise and we each have our own like thing. Um things that we captain within our team um my focus mostly on like canvassing and planning to like um they're about their knocking on doors and talking to voters, is my main role And my mineral is actually planning and event planning and Special media, great thank you for being here. Thanks for happy go okay so we can start talking about all these hearings because we were talking about earlier um. There is a connection between climate change and all these massive storms that have been informing can you guys talk a little bit more about that yeah so um as we all know, I'm it change when it happens. It warms up the atmosphere of the whole planet um and one of occasion waters get warmer um the creamy it's larger, faster storms that, like staying places for longer um that's. Why we see, like the huracanes Season is getting worse and worse. Um and the nation to that, like Sea level rise. When the ice is melting in the water levels are rising across the planet. Um when the like us, able on the Coast lines is higher already and start selling that um it just contributes to more water being likes and that doesn't happen in Florida as well. Like without them here at things that water rise has been like a proud of the issue and yeah I'm talking about what about that because I'm not I'm not a politician, I know of those problems in Florida like I read a little bit about it, but I don't know Yeah so in Miami it actually like if it's heavy rains, even just like on a normal day, there is massive flooding in the streets and the city of Miami is had to put a bunch of money toward life. Changing the infrastructure and, like lifting the streets making them higher and it's pretty remarkable because Florida is um such a uniquely vulnerable state to climate change and Sea level rise we're surrounded by the ocean um and still so many of our politicians and taking the sands of denying the climate changes have been happening and I've decided to take money from the industries that are profiting off of um destroying our state um anymore, so like I saw something about like Florida having the most like coastal property, that would be damaged by Mobilize and huracanes and as someone who grew up like next to the Beach, like I know so many people have so much to lose from this crisis. Is not being addressed. Yeah and another big problem with that when, like people try to properties further inland to escape like the Sea level rise in the storm surges and all the flame um that's like that's really doable for people who are like 12 year who have the support from the government did a lot of times like lower income communities and communities of color like left behind there and, like don't, have the resources that are like the ability to like literally, like move the land up, like that sounds something that's accessible to everyone, so, then we see, like this Climate change and Sea level rise just exacerbated the problems that already exist with housing and quality. Well, yeah just like so many issues. It like under one hold up that's crazy, but that's how it is um. If you talk a little bit about how in a way, this is not prevent available because the damage is over tonight right, big part of the problem is already so done, but what do we do. What do we do to prevent this A game worse and they sickly yeah. I think the um the biggest thing is like we know exactly what's causing climate change is causing the storms to get like bigger and stronger and all the flooding, um and that's like the burning of fossil fuels and the reason that this is happening in the reason that, like we're not transferring to a little energy signing and call me and stuff is because they are really really wealthy people like billionaires, who run the fossil fuel companies and their profit every time like this disasters happen every time we're bringing our fossil fuels and contributing we're excited change Um so I think I like kind of what sunrise is all about. It's like making the connection and understanding that, like if we want to tackle this problem, climate change and all the effects that it's having, like, we need to target and go after the industry and Take money from the simplest reason saying like it's not exactly for you to be promenade off of climate disaster when, like we know, there are solutions to these problems and um. I remember someone, friend. It once it's like the people like climate change, as an issue is like so freaking overwhelming and it feels like um so hard to address and then he said it feels like we already miss the opportunity um, but someone pregnant once they, like the people who are responsible for this crisis, have first and last names and addresses and like not saying I feel like go to their houses but like um just to make the crisis more like tangible and, like gift from Building the political support to like both those people out of office until, like better by writing left the industry, sconces and uh to your point about it feeling like the time is passed to do something about it. Like there's evidence that, like alot of these possible people, corporations like new about climate change decades ago and put money into studies to find out how this will affect their bottom line in their business and they knew that climate change is gonna be a threat to humanity, like along time ago, and then in response to those findings, like that Kinda change was because they knew that they had a lot to lose from this being recognized by the public so in other words, what is possible, fuel they helping people. Yeah right yeah so what That's, like under the Brown it's down there from millions of years, I'm like burning massive amounts that were disrupting that system and throwing off like the earth's like natural ellen's and like the event doesn't have the ability to like suck back all that carbon um. So it builds up in the atmosphere, like creates a warming effect and, like traps all the heat of the planet inside and he's everything up yeah great. I will just like you won't need to be an expert in climate science to recognize that this is an issue and just thinking about it, like instinctively, like would you want to live Next year one of these power plants that are polluting the air in your neighborhood, like no one wants to live near these things because you can't, like breathing these things and makes you sick. We know that people who lived next to these toxic industries have higher rates of cancer and asthma and things like this and that's effectively. What's happening to the whole planet and um you don't need to be an expert on this to know also that we have the technology to like do things better like we have the solutions to the problems there's, solar energy is like a booming field there's also wind turbines and, like We can change society and transform your way. I love that I can talk about some of the other options. We have a lot of people don't know, like the new tails and I'll see you guys attendance will think that we can do yeah what we like the technology is there and there's evidence that if we really made addressing climate change, your priority, we could transform our economy to be based off of renewables um so solar panels are like the panels. You see that essentially take energy and heat from the Sun and then can feel like your House or your car Um electricity stuff like that and I went to reminder little like big White things with like they like spending again from the win um. Sometimes you can see them in my field when you're driving by there's, not that many of Florida. I always get excited when I see them um and that technology is there and it's actually like economically feasible to transition to those um it's just a matter of society making matter priority yeah and I think another reason and, like, like, of course, one of those are really good for the planet. I declined to change but I think we live Under the effect of like a renewable energy economy, that's so cool and interesting is that um, if people are able to provide their own energy left from their home and their neighborhood, then community's can have like Democratic control. The energy resources and we don't have to be dependent on like these job applications, like a big oil to get all of our energy and, like, like a lot of times, we don't know wherever he is coming from and we have no say in like what type of energy we're using, but um with the noodles that are like locally based the community, is gonna have control over their power yeah exactly and that was a good point because there's people getting bridge Yeah that was great and all of us and that's just really really sad um one can we do it because you know there was a lot of people affected by all these hurricanes and this is all because of the overarching um problem. Welcome to do for this people like you have any guys worth of any of you can believe, efforts anything. What can be done right now yeah um so I would everything that just happened with hurricane florence been carolinas um. Our baby like efforts that we're working on right now is we're The group called mutual aid disaster early um and they are collecting, like supplies and donations and volunteers to take to the carolinas so we've been running on the donation drive in orlando um. Your offices with another group, color in this board and I've been like hosting the supplies um and what's so important about the work that they're doing is that alot of times we see you at one disaster strike areas. These big relief groups coming and they like mismanaged, where donations are going on alot of the money that gets donated doesn't actually go to the people on the ground to needed and, like the people, that have Directly impacted don't have to stay and, like how it is being used. Um and that's, like truth about like big relief corporations, but um meeting is like really dedicated to making sure that, like the people on the front lines who have been impacted, everyone see, like have control of those resources and, like it to say where supplies are going, like how it has been used um. I think that's like really important and I think you're talking about the same thing yeah that was Perfect that's very informative. Um. I, like what you were talking about. Can you say instances because we have the Spanish speaking audience when you were telling me about the connection between voting and this problem that we have yes, um more than a hundred work done so the next one is gonna be on November. I would have done it a fabulous gets done uh for the family polluting and That's perfect mama and you might even win a fully consistent in the new city is he the President with me, over three. I come uh I've been in the most accountable. Okay, whatever it always makes them with you, okay that's perfect. Okay um it's another progress report. It happening in North Texas Head guys and I didn't know what to think that they don't know how many people can see you and I'm not going to win uh our environment is our environment. Easy, but what uh the loyal type of cake at the numbers like more bands got their side. Our than I think with that. I think no so very informative talk and thank you so much for tuning and I hope um we have you again so we can keep talking about this is uh this is what I have to keep pushing this yeah so thank you so much. Thank you
