Special Announcement from
Dollywood and The American Eagle Foundatio...n regarding Eagle Mountain Sanctuary:
On June 5th, GG3, the eaglet hatched on Easter Sunday, by Grant and Glenda at Dollywood’s Eagle Mountain Sanctuary, will graduate to the American Eagle Foundation hack tower overlooking Douglas Lake. Typically AEF will move eaglets between the age of 6-8 weeks. Nests at Eagle Mountain Sanctuary are constructed with steep and somewhat high edges which allows the eaglets to remain with their parents as long as possible. Once an eaglet learns to climb atop the nest and begins to perch, it’s time for the next step in the release process.
GG3 will shortly join several other eaglets housed at AEF’s undisclosed hack tower. The American Eagle Foundation Hack Tower includes spacious rooms allowing for a full range of motion, providing a safe area for stretching and strengthening of wingspans needed for successful flight. Placing eaglets in a hack tower also accustoms them to the sights and sounds of nature, allowing them to develop instincts as naturally as possible prior to release back into the wild. At the hack tower, eaglets are carefully monitored by American Eagle Foundation staff daily. Fresh food and water are supplied via drawers that slide into the compartments, minimizing all human association and contact.
**Please join us in chat this weekend as we congratulate GG3 on growing up! See More
